My Goals With The Insanity Workout

Insanity Workout

I decided to start the Shaun T Insanity workout because it looked like a challenge and I have always wanted to incorporate more cardio workouts in my life, plus I need to lose some weight and get toned. So I took up the Insanity workout challenge. I will be doing this Shaun T workout for the next 60 days, I will also be following the nutrition guide as much as possible, so I can maximize my results and be pure in my review. I have Shakeology to help me, plus the P90x recovery drink to help my muscles recover from the workouts. I will not be drinking soda, anything with artificial flavoring, or anything other than water, shakeology or a recovery drink. I might have a small glass of non-fat milk from time to time.

I really do not have a set goal of how much weight I want to lose. I do weigh 206 pounds right now, and eventually I would like to get down to 185 pounds and toned. I really do not think that it is possible or healthy to lose that much weight in 60 days, but if I can lose 10 to 15 pounds, that would be great!

My nutritional guidelines are pretty simple, Insanity has a nutrition plan all laid out and ready for use. I have already done my shopping and am ready to go. I will only be having whole wheat breads, that includes regular sandwich bread, pita bread, and English muffins. I will have Oatmeal or Kashi Cereal, and maybe a shakeology drink. For meats, I will only have turkey, deli style roast beef, some chicken without skin, and lean steak. Fruits, vegetables and nuts will also be part of this diet. I actually hope to start living my life like this.

Week 1: Insanity Workout

I first want to start off by saying that I have done the P90x workout, and that was extremely tough, I however did not do the nutrition plan for that workout, but I should off, I still saw pretty good results.  After doing my first week of the Insanity workout, I have found that these two workouts are completely different.  I am actually havig a tougher time with Insanity then I did with P90x, mostly because there is SO much cardio and I am not used to that.  The last time I have done cardio like this was when I played football, and that was over 12 years ago.

My first day of the Insanity workout will be one that I will never forget.  I will try to do my best in explaining it.  The first day was the Dig Deeper Fit Test which is about 30 minutes long.  Like EVERY workout so far, you do a warm up section.  Each circuit is about 3 and a half minutes long.  You have no breaks in the warm up section, after you get done with the circuit you do it over again, but faster, and then after you get done with the 2nd circuit, you do it gain and even faster.  The whole warm up section is around 11 minutes of doing exercises as quickly as possible, I sweated like crazy in this section and was extremely tired.  After the "warm-ups", there is a section of stretching, which is nice because your body is warmed up and ready to stretch, plus your heart rate goes down during this time.

Then came the actual Fit Test, where you do 8 workouts for 1 minute each with 30 second breaks in between. Another thing, there are no set reps in the Insanity workout, you do as much as possible every exercise.  I was struggling right away, but I was still able to keep up and push through my workouts.  Probably around the 5th workout I started to feel a little queasy, but I still pushed through.  By the last workout I was in the bathroom PUKING!  It was a great feeling!  I have not puked from a workout in a long time.  Turns out my friend's wife who is also doing the insanity workout also puked during the fit test.

My second day was much better, however, I was sore...but I did not puke!! The 2nd day was the Plyometric cardio circuit, it is about 40 minutes long, but because of the warm ups and the stretching, you actually do not start the real workout until there is 23 minutes left in the workout.  Which is plenty of time for Shaun T to do some damage.  There was a lot of jumping and squats in this workout and even some football drills.  After the workout I just had to lay on the floor and do nothing, my body was exhausted.

I woke up the next morning even more sore than the day before.  But I got up and pushed myself to do the workout, it was seriously a struggle.  My calves and thighs were on fire, even my upper body was sore from doing the push up routines.  By the time the warm ups and the stretches were over my muscles started to feel better, then came the Cardio Power and Resistance workout.  There were more push ups, more squats, jumping, and sprinting.  This was a great workout for me to push through, it gave me a lot of confidence that I can actually do the Insanity Workout.  These workouts have been so tough even the people in the video have to take breaks and get water.

The next day my body was crying out for a break, and the next workout could not have come at a better time.  It was the Cardio Recovery, although it was not a piece of cake at all.  It did have a lot of stretching in it, with some moves that I recognized from Yoga.  After the workout my body felt great!

But I could not get to comfortable, because the next day was the Pure Cardio workout.  Once you get into the main workout of the disc, you have NO 30 SECOND BREAKS....ZERO.  You push your body as hard as possible for about 15 minutes straight.  I was dropping like a fly, but I was not the only one, people in the video were also dropping like flies.

Overall this first week has been a pretty huge shock to my body, the soreness is subsiding and I am starting to feel more energized throughout my day.

I have been doing insanity for 6 weeks. I still unfortunately drink NOS energy soda like every day. But I have lost an estimated 7-10 lbs. I am not weighing my self during becuase I want to wait until im done.

I have done 5 weeks and am now on day 4 of week 6. I am starting to see no love handles, muscles in my abs are showing. I started at (male, 28, 5'11", 213 lbs). I believe that I will get down to 190 or less with this program. I am going to do the second months workouts for 2 months before I weigh in. Then I am going to make my own program to reconfuse my muscles using what I learned from thisworkout.

I am not sure but I think the Asian girl in the video is dating Shaun T because he sure users her as a reference very often.

Anyways im so addicted to the workout that I am going to go and do one of them right now and its 1105pm on Thursday night.

Then tomorrow morning im going to run 2 miles and then tomorrow afternoon im going to do the Max Interval Plyo which is reportedly burning up to 900 calories if you can "Dig Deeper" haha.

Awesome program.

I just started the workout yesterday and I love it. I'm hurting so bad right now but I just can't wait to start again tomorrow! The stretches are great, I was a figure skater all through high school and I could have really used some of the techniques to loosen up after cardio back then. Haha and I thought the exact same thing about the Asian girl and Shaun being together

So far the insanity workout has been incredible. That is a pretty bold move to do the 2nd month twice in a row, but it sounds like a great idea.

I don't know about the Asian chick and Shaun T being together, they might be, but I know they did hip hop abs together too.

hi, i was wondering ive read alot on the web that this workout is mostly good for toning but not very good to loose weight, is that true?, i want to loose atleast 20lbs in the 60 days and also get toned, would realy appriciate any hepl i could get before deciding to go with it, thank you.

(Male, 5' 7" 141 lbs) Just finished week 2 day 5. My calves were sore for pretty much the entire first week but have since felt a lot better. I'm really hoping the next 6 weeks allow my abs to show a lot more. I finished P90X in 90 days and gained 2 lbs and am now working on shedding the remainder of fat I have still stored around me mid section and lower back. I'll be jumping back into P90X in order to gain some mass after I've completed Insanity.

My eventual goal is to reach 150lbs with around 5-6% body fat. No small feat considering if I miss a day or two, I'm back to where I started. I try to eat about 3000-3500 calories a day so hopefully gaining some muscle wont be too hard from here on out.

And yeah that Asian girl is hot. Too bad she whooped me during the Fit test.

Does anyone post their fit test results? I'm starting INSANITY Friday (mainly because I need Thursdays as my off day). I'd love to see what other people are doing.

It is very important to take a before picture, and keep on taking pictures during the Insanity workout, because once you see the change in your body, it will motivate you that much more.

2BFit 2 years ago

It was great reading everyone's comments. At 5"1 112 lbs (female), I wasn't sure about my "mind over matter" on Day 1 because I sucked at the fitness test and felt a bit light-headed. I am glad to see that that isn't unusual.

I am just on Day2 now and still struggling but look forward to the workouts. I will take a before pic asap as a visual aid to my progress.

Only question I have is do you all find that you rest a lot or are you generally able to go through each day's work-out with minimal breaks?

My goal is to go back to my more toned 105-107 pounds and have washboard abs. I am currently not following the nutrition plan but will see if it is doable for me.

AVY 2 years ago

I am glad to read that other people's calves were sore for the first week and they got better. I have been working some of the Insanity workouts into my P90X and running regimen and man my calves are always sore after Insanity (less after having done the workout once but still sore). I am now going to do full on Insanity so was glad to read that the soreness dissipates. Has that been the experience with others?

Robert 2 years ago

Dee - The Insanity workout does both, not just tone. The majority of the videos are very intensive cardio. He accomplishes it by confusing your body often enough to not let it get comfortable with what you're doing. For example you'll do 2 or 3 standing up routines, followed up 2 or 3 on the floor routines then to make it worse he has you go from standing to pushup to standing again.

I'm on day 3 of week 2, I haven't noticed a weight loss yet, but won't weigh in until my fit test day next Monday. But I have seen my cardio endurance shoot up quickly. On day 1 I couldn't get through the warmup without stopping during each routine, now I can complete the slow portion and most of the medium before I have to take a small break. The key to the whole thing is DO NOT PAUSE the video, pausing it allows you to rest for too long and make the whole thing pointless. If you need a break, stop for a few seconds get some water and push through it and keep going.

I've cut soda out since the end of week 1, and am working on cutting out the sugar & caffeine from my morning cup of coffee and my mid day cup of tea. I haven't had fast food since Sunday and I learned a valuable lesson. Having a cheat day shouldn't be heading to Domino's or McDonalds. You'll pay for it on Monday (I learned that the hard way).

fordtruckcowgurl 2 years ago

Hey everyone, I was wondering what happens if you miss a day. Do you just pick back up on the next day or do you have to start all over again?

Luke 23 months ago

The diet is critical in this program! Not only will it help people lose weight but more importantly it fuels your body. The complex carbs(whole wheat foods) will give you long term energy. You will find it easier to keep pushing through the workouts.

I figure if I'm dedicated 60 solid days to this workout I might as well go all out. I printed off a second copy of the nutrition guide and taped it up on the cupboards of my kitchen. I only eat off the meal plan and so far its working really well. I just finished week 1 and went from not being physically active in 2 years to back in shape.

The meal plan really does help though! Also, drop sugar! Sugar is bad! I haven't had pop or refined sugar since I started the program and I feel a LOT better. The difference is very noticeable. If you do a search online you'll find that most sugars and even artificial sweeteners are poisonous to your body. Pushing to reduce the amount of refined sugar you take in will really help.

@jessica

I would say, YES, it does work. If you push yourself, it will show. I'm about to finish the fourth week, and I started seeing results after the second week. I've only lost about 4 lbs, but I've lost a lot of fat, and since I'm a varsity athlete, even those 4lbs are great. Even though I had to skip a week (I'm in college, taking 4 lab classes, and on a sports team and everything just piled on) I just came back in where I left off and my body is still changing- none of my jeans fit anymore!

Ashley 23 months ago

I guess the most important question is "is it really worth the money"? I really want to purchase it, but it looks like it's going to be a total of about $150.

MsLady 23 months ago

Yes it is definitly worth the money, and I just started the workout and I have some friends that have actually completed it and they have great results but must warn you it is not for wimps.....VERY EXTREME

Ashley 23 months ago

Okay thanks :) I went ahead and ordered it last night. I'm so excited about it coming, should be here in a week. Any advice for before starting? I haven't worked out in a while, so I'm sure I'll die during the first few min. but I really wanna do good with it.

Jamie 23 months ago

I just started insanity on Monday and tomorrow is my day off. My question is, is it safe to do a short yoga routine or should I just not workout at all? Could I at least go for a jog? I know it's probably a good idea to just rest but the thought of not doing any activity makes me feel blahh. I really enjoy my newfound energy from exercise.

ervin jaimes 23 months ago

i just oredered insanity i got to the gym for 2 hours every day and i thought i would blow this insanity outta of the water i alreadyh have a great body so i was like i can push it to the max. im going to tell you the truth i now know that im not in shape after doing my first week. its the best wrkout i have every had and going into my second week is an acomplishment its the best wrkout out there im not lying im not spam or some advertisment this is the hardest wrkout on tv yet

Joe 23 months ago

I have been using this workout for 2 weeks now and have lost about 4 pounds. I drink slim fast to curb my appetite. I have lifted weights all my life and just felt the need to improve my cardiovascular system. This has been a great workout so far!

rye-guy 23 months ago

i also puked in fit test afte the 5th workout

AC from Houston 23 months ago

I started Insanity on Monday, and it is kicking my butt like there is no tomorrow. I am 36 years old and I don't hold my age against doing this. I started this program with the specific goal of dropping some few fat cells all around my body (nothing better than cardio). I hate running...treadmill, or just running around my neighborhood. This is "FUN???" At least it keeps it interesting.

Just like some of you, I got light headed even doing the fit test. I've finished P90X about 4 weeks ago, but this is definitely "INSANE", if you are not used to doing cardio intensive workout, which this is. I can't finished the workout without taking the extra breaks...i wear heart monitor so that I stay within the zone.

I know I will get better as I move thru the program. And for those who are in similar shape, will get better. How do I know? Cause P90X did the same to me. 1st day of P90X made me quite the program once, but I stuck to it second time around and got better at it.

Good luck to you all who are coming on board.

james 23 months ago

Hey, I'm a 32yr old male. 5'10" and 270lbs. I'm in the early stages of Dunlapse disease (stomach has dun-lapsed over the belt!) Is this workout something I should consider or should I get a little more in shape first? This seems to be great for those who already work out or are only slightly out of shape but I haven't seen anyone who's only shape is "round" doing this. I want to improve my health, but I don't want to do something that will push me to the point of giving up b/c I started too high.

Eric 23 months ago

I just started yesterday and am extremely excited to see whats to come. In the first half of the fit test I did excellent. Then my low endurance showed. I was getting killed by the Asian chick in everything but Powerjacks.

James I have only one day under my belt. But, I would suggest to make sure you can complete some other cardio goals before starting. For example a 2 mile run or 30 min on the elyptical. If you dig deep, you can do it. But, you don't want to set your self up for failure. Good luck to everyone! See you in 59 days!

loops 23 months ago

I just had a baby through c section about 7 wks ago, I'm wondering if this is a safe workout for me to start on or is it so intense I should get my doctors ok?? I've just been super excited bout gettin back into shape and this video that waitin is gonna kill me!!

yo_dood 23 months ago

@loops... I totally understand the desire to get back into shape pronto after having a baby. And I've had 3 c-sections. I can tell you it might be a little too intense because its so jarring and your scar may not be able to withstand so much pressure at this early stage. And if you're breastfeeding, it also may decrease your milk supply because it demands so much caloric expenditure. Ask your doctor for sure! I started doing Pilates and jogging after my c-sections, and really didn't start intense exercise/weight lifting until about 6 months post partum. Hope that helps.

Tuff Stuff 23 months ago

@loops-talk to your doc first. I don't think your body has healed quite enough for such an intense workout, as lots of it is for the core.

I just ordered Insanity, looking forward to trying it out, Im in pretty good shape just want to shock my body and try something new... Does anyone know if it's ok for me to continue to weight lift and run while doing this program?

Leni G. 23 months ago

Im trying to lose weight with diet, but is not working. I got very fat after having my babies (twins) 5 years ago. Im 5'3 - 178 pounds. I havent been in a gym for 15 years. Really out of shape. Do u think I would be able to keep up with those exercises? I'd like to try it. No.... I want to. I dont see many coments of people with weight problem... I need to loose 50 pounds... Someone help me please...

Pamwilson 22 months ago

I started this video last night. I'm 47 years old and have never been very athletic. I'm 5'5'' @ 148 pounds. I have been doing Pilates for three months and I think that is why I'm not super sore today. It's a great workout and I am very encouraged. Leni G. should go for it....each time you work out you will get stronger and the weight will come off...

Mark 22 months ago

I see many questions, so I thought I would give my two cents (though everyone is different). I am a sponsored triathlete, and perform at the elite level. I started Insanity to strengthen my peripheral muscles.

AVC: (Lifting and running while on Insanity). For me, I must continue to lift, run, swim, and bike. However, those activities have taken a hit since Insanity leaves me quite fatigued. So, you CAN do it, but you MUST listen to your body. Recovery is often an overlooked part of fitness success.

Mary 22 months ago

I'm 5'1" and weight 148lbs I have gained 30 pounds in the last 2 years, I use to do Billy Blanks Tae Bo every day but let myself slowly go, I'm on Weight Watcher now I have lost about 9lbs. in 3 weeks, does any one know if my Weight Watchers low calorie diet plan will compliment Insanity's work out or do I have to follow their diet plan to achieve successful results? I do drink coffee every morning and 1 diet coke per day, other than it's mostly water that I drink. What advise can any one please give me?

I just started Insanity on MOnday and am surviving so far but wanted to know if a lot of people are having painful legs muscles especially the quads? This workout is insane

Andrew D 22 months ago

Hey all, I have been doing the insanity workout for 2 weeks now, it's amazing and I love it! My body (especially calves) was very sore for the first week but my body is starting to recover and the sessions are getting "easier". Anyone looking for an alternative to the results and recovery formula should definitely try chocolate milk(no lie, look it up) it's perfect for recovery after a workout.

Athlone27 22 months ago

For the people several weeks into the program when do you start to see physical changes and look and feel better?

LISA L. 22 months ago

i would just like to say i think the insanity workout is one of the best workouts i have done.....i have already finish my 63 days and i love my results so i decided to take a week off which i have done and now im doing insanity all over again...i cant wait to see my results after these next 63... i recommand insanity to anyone who is really about getting there body into shape.=)

Athlone27 22 months ago

Just finished day 4 of insanity, I was suprised but I had a harder time doing all the stretches in the cardio recovery than the first 3 workouts, guess my core needs a lot of strengthening to improve my balance. I don't look any different but feel better, I am excited to reach day 63 and see the reults

Sammy 22 months ago

MikeyO and Leni G,

I'm rather new at this workout (Only about 4 weeks in), but I think that the best part isn't that I'm seeing results from it, but that it makes me FEEL amazing. that's the best part. It's totally worth doing whether your goal be weight loss or to get a great body based solely off of the feelings of both empowerment and achievement that you get from doing it. Even though I look like a laboring cow and have to take more breaks than those in the video while doing it, I would definitely tell you to do it and that it is worthwhile and worth the money just to feel better about yourself. Good luck guys!

TIff 22 months ago

Mary, if your going to try this drop the caffeine and dont do a diet! This workout is so intense you have to eat but healthy. I've been doing it and I love it! The meal plan works great and you can substitute diff meals in as long as its in the calorie range and I love the 5meals as it prevents my sugar from fluctuating as well as gives me energy. I dont use the recovery formula, I use myoplex lite. It really helps and has the protein for your muscles. I drink it after my workouts. It really is intense on cardio though. If you try it go at your own pace and build it up that way you dont get too lightheaded.

My boyfriend laughed at me when I first started saying is that all? I admit I was out of shape, havent worked out like that since high school. So I made him try the fit test and it kicked his butt! ha! But now we work out together and I make our meals for the day! My bodys looking great and I can't wait to go shopping for a bikini. Good luck!

TexasP 22 months ago

I started Insanity 2 weeks ago and I do love it. I am 5'8", 128...looking to tone up for summer-- at 38 years old, the muffin top and cellulite are in full force. You sweat a ton, it's excellent exercise. I take kickboxing and we do a lot of cardio, so that has defintely helped. I really never thought I could get through anything like this and thought I would lose interest or think it was too hard, but it is addicting. I am just hoping to see some serious results by the end of the 60 days...want to be ripped like Tonya! Dig deeper and good luck everyone!

Hello all,

I am super excited about starting this program. I just ordered it today and will be getting it on Friday April 2, 2010. I am ready for my new life of getting in shape and my divorce about to happen soon. I am ready to start a new chapter in my life with me and my daughter. However, I am just hoping the next time I see my ex husband I will be in super great shape so he will regret his decision.

Pike1816 22 months ago

I started Insanity 30 days ago and now in the recovery week. I am addicted to the workouts as well. I did P90X and has incredible results. Then I got divorced and hit the party scene again and drank my way out of shape. I am turning 40 in July and decided to kick start the next workout phase with INSANITY!!!! I have mixed in a couple P90X workouts and they seem so slow compared to Shaun T workout. I am mixing in Ab Ripper X every other dasy with Insanity and like it better than Shaun T's ab workout. Going to finish my 60 days and then go back into P90X but only for strength..going to do Insanity. Should be done with P90X by the time I go to Mexico for my 40th.

I got my "Insanity" in March. Im about to start my recovery week tomorrow. I have noticed some change and I can fit into some jeans a little better haha and I love the sweating!!! But, I have a question. If anyone reads this...I am doing Insanity 1st thing in the morning. Does anyone know if it would be good to add weight lifting at the gym in the evenings for an hour or so?? If someone can help me out, my email is tiburon_dude03@yahoo.com

Hi all,

I'm 50 years old, in fairly good shape, play sports and run a garden center. Meaning, I do a lot of physical work.

Would love to try this work out and loose a few pounds at the same time. Most of you guys are in your 20 or 30's. Am I being realistic to try this. Hubby says I'm too old. That alone is enough for me to prove him wrong.

Love to hear what you think.

I just started Insanity, I'm 47 yrs old 6' and 170 pounds. Weight is not my problem but have a belly and really out of shape. I am on my second day and was able to keep up mostly for the first 30 min then only on and off with many breaks but am confident that every day will get better. ONTARIO I would go for it, pace yourself and push you only have 3 yrs on me. Good Luck!

Athlone27 22 months ago

So today is the start of week 2, I agree it makes you feel good and hopefully the tranformation will follow. Keep up the hard work all and it will be worth it but remember the workout alone will not be enough the diet needs to change too which is really hard too

New to Insanity and just took the Fit Test yesterday. My day 2 DVD doesn't work and I am not sure which one would be a good day 2 workout?? Any suggestions? Thanks.

Kelsey 22 months ago

I started Insanity 4 days ago. In high school i was a tri-athlete and in college I became more of a runner and dropped 35 lbs. Since then running hasn't done much for me adn I got bored so easily, so i got Insanity and I love it!!! It really doesn't matter if you do it morning or night, whenever you feel you have more energy to push yourself that's when you should do it. My legs are so sore and I cannot wait to go home and try a new dvd, this is by far the best program ever!

thalia e 22 months ago

hey guys just updating. today i did my first fit test. OMG this is some killer stuff, i almost puked half way through. cant wait to start the real work outs tomrrow but it scares me b.c i died just warming up and doing the fit test!....mann this is not for the weak hearted at allll! well be checkin back in 2 weeks!

TexasP 22 months ago

Ontario...absolutely try it! If it's not for you, it's not for you, but you'll never know unless you give it a try. I am 38 (female) and didn't step foot in a gym until about 2 years ago when I started to notice rolls and ripples. This is intense, but rest when you need to rest, you will get used to the cardio they do. I was very frustrated at first because everyone in the videos looks so good, but I had to learn to remember that I am not a fitness instructor and this is not my job...just want to tone up and feel good. Let us know if you decide to do it!! :)

Ironsidesaz 22 months ago

As far as working out morning vs. night.... I have a book called body for life written by the guy who owns the EAS product line.....

In his book he says that working out in the morning prior to eating can increase fat loss by up to 300%. The reason is because your muscles store glucose (enough for about 15-30 min worth of exercise) for quick energy when needed but once that is burned up it must process fat storage for more energy. The idea is that in the morning the muscles have far less glucose levels than you do at night due to the fact that you have been sleeping for the past 6-10 hours rather than eating and therefore they will need to access fat storage much sooner than they would id you have just eaten a couple of hours prior.

Can't wait to start, most likely today. i'm 27, 5'5 and weigh 120lbs.def not fat, but def not fit. how long did it take anyone who tried this in order to firm up and not necessarily lose weight to see some results?

outofshapeisanunderstatement 22 months ago

DJ Elizabeth I just completed day 4. it is hard, BUT well worth it. I am the most out of shape person (45 & over 225 at 5'7"). But I am doing my best and NOT giving up! One day at a time.

DANIELLE 22 months ago

I just started insanity today and boy oh boy it kicked my butt. i am 28 and i weigh about 143 pounds. I wanna tone my body and lose the weight around the stomach area. but i don't know if i'm gonna make it!!!i really need some encouragement!!!!

Athlone27 22 months ago

I just started my third week, completed my second fit test yesterday and was really suprised how much better the results were this time.

I haven't seen huge improvements on the scale yet but I hope it will start to happen now that the body is getting used to it

Anybody else need a little time to start seeing real results?

fat_chic 22 months ago

I am 30 years old and 267lbs, really sucks, I don't know how I reached up there. I just bought the Insanity dvds and I really want to put it to the test. Does it really help you lose weight or does it just tones your body, because I am looking to drop some serious lbs?

canbedone 22 months ago

I have a question, I live in an apartment and can these routines be done on carpet floor or need a hard surface floor. Please advise. thank you.

glenda 22 months ago

K this is not the workout to just start with!!!!

it will help you shed the lbs and tone the flab but its not something you just start out with if you havent already been doing some kind of cardio or workout routine.

wantmybodyback 22 months ago

hi, know i said this before, but if anyone had some results for just firming/toning...i'd love to know how long it took to see some results

ladyaries 22 months ago

YES!! I do them on the second floor of my house in my carpeted room. some things shake around a bit but after I got over the embarassment of having my parents listen to me hop around, it's fine. I just did the recovery vid today, first week and I completed the whole video. I know it sounds silly but its the first video that I could get all the way through without stopping and it actually gave me the confidence I needed to push through and try to conquer the others. I'd really love to have someone email me who's at the same place as me abouts. Its April 8th today and I'm on the cardio/recovery. Tomorrow is Pure Cardio (AHHH!!!) is anyone at the same place? maybe we could be pen pal motivators haha!! atrewolla@gmail.com THANKS!! I need all the encouragement I can get :/

want2bfit 22 months ago

Today is day 4 and I'm already addicted to this.

I usually workout in the morning, but had to start work early. Can't wait to go home and do it again. I'm getting kinda anxious;) I love the energy and how great I feel after. I'm not in good shape and spend more time drinking water than working out, but still hurt like crazy. I'm only on day 4, but I've never felt so much energy. atrewolla, I emailed you... I could use a motivator too! Thanks all for posting your comments, its really motivating!

Athlone27 22 months ago

I am now on the 4th day of week 3 and have been feeling tired all week during the workouts, has this happened to anybody else?

Maybe I am just getting sick but wanted to check as I don't want to miss any days if I just need to push through it

Captain Awesome 22 months ago

I started Doing Insanity on Tuesday and I love it. I thought my cardio was pretty good but apparently not lol. I am 5'7" 178 lbs and looking to get down to 165. Looking forward to the next 6 weeks its going to be a bumpy ride. Good luck to everyone that is willing to try it.

danny 22 months ago

i use to play baseball but since stopped. its been two years and i lost all muscle mass and weight...im 510 weighing 130lbs. i want my abs back and body will this help me out?

Karen 22 months ago

Glad to hear that I'm not the only one who felt light headed and like puking during the fitness test. I just finished that and am sitting here thinking about how much I need a workout like this.

@Ontario, i am 50 years old too and am starting this workout. I don't think that is too old to start any workout, but you might want to just check with your doctor too if you're concerned.

deann 22 months ago

I started the Insanity work out about 3 weeks and it was truly insane. I started at 5/6 180lbs. i havent weighed myself but i see the results.

Dan 22 months ago

Male, 5'8, 170. Prior to ordering this I would lift and run a mile and a half daily. Just finished day 2. This is one crazy workout, god damn! I definitely was not in shape. Shaun T is trying to kill me.

gimp 22 months ago

One of my best friends is on this program and after 60 days she has 20lbs... I don't know her original stats but the weight loss was very recognizable! And she looked so toned and happy. I want to start the program but just had major ligament reconstruction on my ankle... am bummed not be joining you all right now..

Gloria 22 months ago

Just finshed week one of insanity weighed in and gained 2 pounds. Its a great workout and i feel great, was sore for the first 4 days and now i feel great. will continue to see if the result is worth it

Joe 22 months ago

6'3 215 male. This workout is killing me. I was a 3 sport varsity athlete, but I never worked out like this! On the 3rd week, and have dropped 5 pounds, very noticable. Getting my abs back!

Lisa 22 months ago

From the infomercial, I think this would really appeal to me. Before I order, I would like to be more sure this is right for me. I really enjoy working out with Billy Blanks TaeBo because the moves are easy to learn, he tells you exactly what to do, and the music is motivating. That is what I need. Is Intensity the same as I just described? I have Shaun's Hip Hop and found it too hard to learn the moves.

Harry 22 months ago

Lisa- I do Taebo- you won't have any trouble picking up Shaun T.'s routines- but Insanity is a lot more intense than most of the Taebo workouts- the people who have posted on this blog aren't lying! (btw- my wife and I are both doing Insanity, and she is doing very well with the workouts...)

muhammid 22 months ago

can some1 please post their fitness test results? mine were embarassingly terrible: 53, 20, 77, 17, 0, 10, 0, and 12

Chris 22 months ago

I actually have the original Power90 from Tony Horton. Bought it 8 years ago. I was out of shape and couldn't keep up and gave up.

With Insanity, which does not require additional equipment, one thing I noticed is that you don't get bored out of the workout. It's been one week for me (my rest day is tomorrow). You literally feel like falling over. You're so focused on getting it done and trying to keep up, time flies.

One recommendation that I think is important is to be in somewhat ok shape. If you haven't excercised in months or even years, this might be dangerous. If you haven't worked out in years, go jog a bit a week before.

I came into the program last week having jogged for the past 6 years (1.5 to 3 miles not everyday). Definitely a lot more in shape than I was 8 years ago.

Like Shaun T says, be safe. If you can't keep up and feel short of breath, please stop and jog around like some of the folks in the video.

Pamwilson 22 months ago

ONTARIO.... you are not to old for this workout. I'm 47 and was totally out of shape, and now I can keep up with most of the workouts. I've lost 3lbs and approx. 2 inches. It is a challenge, but if you stick to the routine, each day becomes a victory!

alex 21 months ago

you guys do know that you can get a full copy of insanity online for free using torrents...google them..well not just that but any software, music, movie, etc...

mznickey2003 21 months ago

Okay I have question I've insanity for a while...but never got past the first week...but this time I plan to stay committed I started Monday had to take a break yesterday and right back into today....I am trying to follow Dr. Ian extreme fat smash where you don't eat a lot of protein but you eat 4 times a day and can have 3 snacks...do you think I should follow something with more protein in my diet...by the way I am 5'0 and 140lbs female

Starting today. Quite nervous, but looking fwd to it. Got alot of weight too lose, and ready too go.

sarahP 21 months ago

Hey all. stumbled across this thread and thought id add my comment here... Today was day three for me and my 14 year old step daughter. I weigh 195. I was 250 15 months ago when i gave birth to my little one... and my step daughter is around 185... We get our butts up at 430 in the morning and push play. We cant keep up, BUT WE TRY OUR HARDEST, and I keep telling her how good of a job she is doing, and in turn, she tells me that Im doing a good job too! So far, we are loving this program. Time does fly by. before you know it, its time to cool down... I tell my step daughter that its OK not to keep up with the people on the DVD's... they are in excellent shape! We are not! So, we just pace ourselves and do what we can.

In all honesty, today is day three, and Im already pushing harder, and feeling better than I did on day one. Its amazing! Cant wait to share my results!

Stratosurfer 21 months ago

Ontario, I'll be 50 in 45 days... I have almost completed the first run through Insanity, wife and I are in week 7. It is a very challenging workout, but as the others have said, you go at your own pace. They have some cast members/instructors who are there to challenge those who are in the best of shape, but slowing down and going at your own pace you still get great results. I have been running between 3 to 5 miles since high school and my body no longer responds well to running: I can gain weight quite easily. I am getting in much better shape and the weight and inches are -slowly- coming off.

KristineG 21 months ago

I had my daughter 6 months ago, and STILL havent lost the weight. I went from a size 2 or 4 to 154 lbs..which is where I am at now. I want to lose the weight (my goal is to get back to 120 lbs at 5'8) but more importantly I want to fit into my clothes again. If I stick to the diet and workouts, is this the right program for me?

JaeRae 21 months ago

I noticed that nobody in the comments are over 50 yrs old. How do you think this would work for someone 50+ yrs. I have just lost 80lbs. and my walk/run 3-5 miles a day has just become boring. My doctor says go for 40 more pounds. I was intrigued by the infomercial but is it worth the money? or would I even be able to do some of these exercises?

Pamwilson 21 months ago

JaeRae... I'm not yet at 50, but I am 47... I say that this would work for you. Pace yourself until your body gets use to the workout. The most important thing, is to follow the program. I can't keep up with my workout partners, but I do keep good form during exercises, and I've stayed on track with the program. It's not a weight loss program, but you do eventually loose weight, but it's slow coming off, but you loose inches sooner. I am seeing amazing results and I am in the best shape i've ever been in!

LilSnoop40 21 months ago

Today is my start of week 3 of insanity. I am 31 years old, 5'11 male. When I started this I weighted in at 211. I check my weight often on my scale and today it said 202. Is this all water or actually fat? I drink bottles of water all day long at work to make up for what I will loose while doing the workouts. I would like to loose my belly I have, it's not large but I want it gone. I really do enjoy and look forward to doing these work outs everyday. While doing this I have been trying to take in 1700 calories a day. I am using an app for I iPhone to do this. Not even sure I that's the right amount to eat in a day. In the app I was told to enter height and weight and it calculated the amount for me. Will I start to notice my belly go away. I love doing this, good luck to all!

Brian 21 months ago

I am now on day 3 of insanity. This program definitely lives up to its name. On day 1 I had to pause the fitness test for like 2-3 min because I thought I was going to puke. A buddy of mine did it and said the test was easy compared to the work outs. That had me scared to death so I bought a heart monitor and I will be monitoring myself during the workouts. Day 2 was also hard, but not as hard as I thought. I have a really hard time with the level 1 drills, and in particular the jumping up, then back down for push ups. I could do it like 5 times then my legs gave out. I feel my core getting stronger already!!

I would not recommend this work out for people who are way out of shape or have not worked out at all for years. Two months ago I weighed 255 lbs (at 6'4") and was getting scared that I would have heart trouble. My doctor warned me that my triglycerides were too high and I needed to exercise. I started by using the elliptical and running occasionally. When I started the elliptical I could only do like 15 min, now I can go for an hour. I would recommend doing something like elliptical or jogging for a month or two to get your body used to physical activity. Make sure you stretch after your workouts. If you jump right into insanity I think you are at big risk of injury.

Brian 21 months ago

By the way I dropped from 255 down to 235 before I started insanity. My buddy dropped 25 pounds in the two months doing it. I don't expect results that drastic, but I think 15-20 is reasonable.

I'm in day 5 of the program.I love it but really struggling.does anyone else throw up?

Chris 21 months ago

The first few days after the first fit check, after the workouts I felt very light headed and a bit nauseated. I had to lie down after the workouts. During this second week, I feel a lot better. I'm not saying not to push it, but know your limits. If you start to not feel good, take a break. I tried to go all out the first few days and I almost fainted. If your body gives you warning signs, slow down. The guys in the video do, so there's no shame in doing so.

I am so glad i got this program. it is so much fun and i can't wait for today's session. Don't give up guys, it'll all be worth it in the end :)

I am week 2 of Insanity and I am enjoying. I feel like I lost a few inches in the first week. On the 5th day, I was getting dressed and looked at myself and notice a little change. That made me very excited and confident about what I have to look forward too. My muscles are still sore, but not as sore as they were last week. Insanity is truly a good workout and I can't wait to see ending results... Question, I know alot of ppl mentioned their cabs are hurting, is anyone shin sore? Mine are; I want to make sure I am not doing anything wrong. Good Luck on your workout!!

Bodybuilder4ever 21 months ago

I have just ordered Insanity and am looking forward to getting back into competition shape after a 3 year lay off. I know this is going to kick my butt, as I have gained way too much wait during my layoff. I need something to get me motivated and drop the weight and get me back as fast as possible. I have looking and feeling the way I do now, especially after being in such good shape for most of my life.

StephM 21 months ago

I am soo excited to get started on Insanity. Im 20, 5'6 and I weigh 140 on a bad day, haha. I have a lot of muscle but I can't wait to tone up and lose weight. I'm in college and classes just ended so i'm looking forward to devoting an hour every morning to this program. I'll try and keep posting on my updates. Good Luck to everyone else getting started with Insanity:D

Atrey 21 months ago

Hi guys, hope you are so excited as i am with this program. I have been trying to do the same thing that they do in the video, ohh my God, i can barely keep breathing, i am not even able to finish the 30 or 40 minutes of this video. It is a very tough program, my feet are in pain, i have body ache, did i say that i am short of breath? Believe me i need more than 30 seconds to catch my breath back. I don't know how they can make it. Beside all my complaining i love this program. Even though i have been doing this for 3 days, i have started seeing some immediately results, in my legs, this is the first time that i see that a training program work so fast on me, usually i get tired of these training programs because they are too tough and u dont see results so quickly, but this time i have seen results, and the best part of all this is that i dont need to work out with weight, so it is you and your own weight. I will try to post a comment in a week to let you know if i could survive. lol. Have a blessing day

StephM 21 months ago

I just finished my fit test today, whewwww, I have lots of work to do. I felt like I was gonna throw up halfway through. I do feel really energized now. :)so far I love this program. Keep ya posted;)

Thanks.

Athlone27 21 months ago

Back from vacation and heading back into week 4, motivation is gone right now but hopefully after a couple of days I will be back into it.

Not looking forward to the achy muscles having missed 2 weeks

Wish me luck

Atrey 21 months ago

Of course it will help u to lose weight, if but u cant give up doing the workout.

TexasP 21 months ago

Anon, from what I understand this is not a weight loss program. I guess it depends on what your weight is/what your goal is. I am certain people who are overweight will drop pounds doing this program, but if you are not and don't have a lot to lose then I wouldn't be looking for big numbers. My goal was to tone up and drop a couple lbs. as I do not need to lose a lot. I have lost no weight, but definitely see a difference in certain parts of my body. I think everyone is different, and I have read a lot of different things about the results. Hope that made sense-

Joy 21 months ago

Hi Gang Im looking to purchase INSANITY , I work out but I get bored with the same routines . I have read almost everyone comment and I have to say im def buying , But I have a question some1 help Im a lil overweight but I have the mind set And I know that I can do this . Does anyone think that this is not for some1 that is 250 lbs do you think its too much ?

staceyd29 21 months ago

I have been doing insanity for 3 weeks. I have a seperate disc with my set thats labeled cardio abs. WHen do i use this disc? i have just been doing the cardio abs that is on the disc with the pure cardio on days that i am to do pure cardio and cardio abs. Is this wrong. Should i be doing the ure cardio and cardio abs on the one disc and then additionally do the cardio abs on the seperate disc??

JA-Sunshine 21 months ago

Hi Joy. If you have the mind set then you can do it. What is key is to push your self. Don't try and keep up with the people in the video, focus on doing your best at each workout.

I'm on day 5 of week three and it's my first time weighing in. I haven't lost any weight but I defintely see the difference in how my clothes fit and the shape of my legs and stomach. I have not been using the nutritional guide, and after weighing in today I feel that a food journal might do the trick to aid weight loss because the program does work.

From all the reviews I have read, and I have read a lot, and also based on what I have been doing and the results I see, the best advice I can give is stick to the nutritional guide as best as you can. As with any other workout program your results will always be better if you are eating right. But the program is defintely worth it and if you are committed no matter how sore you get, it will pay off.

NVD 21 months ago

I started Insanity at 220lbs, I've completed the entire program once, and am halfway through the second time. Down to 189lbs. I also puked the very first day, but you gotta stay in it. It gets easier the more you do it.

Kayden 21 months ago

Hey guys! I just ordered last night, and I know its going to be a challenge. I'm 5'5 or 5'6 and just about at the 200 mark in my weight. not in shape anymore at all.. I'm 18 and was in ROTC for a while and that was my workout that kept my weight down. But I'm looking do drop some pounds and tone up.. I would Like to be 167. but we will see when my program comes and I start. I just hope I can push through it.. I want to be in better shape than I am in now for my birthday (june 23). Wish me luck guys!

Jason 21 months ago

Well, did the before pics last night and all the measurements I needed and am beginning the fit test tonight. I sampled a couple of the video's and it takes me back to conditioning in wrestling practice. I am sure if I can make it past the first week I can keep going. I love all the positive comments and I hope I can achieve my goals. I'm 5"5" and 184lbs. Im hoping to get back to 160lbs. Thanks for posting your inspiring comments to make us feel like we can "dig deeper".

Cristina 21 months ago

I'm on day 2 week 2 and I just weighed my self I gained 1.5 llbs. Did this happen to any one else? I want to lose not gain! I'm worried that eating 5 times a day plus recovery formula is making me gain. I am following the meal plan btw. Is this supposed to happen? Will it drop after a while? Can anyone give some input.

marie 21 months ago

I am on my second week and have gained 5 lbs. Trainer said it is gaining muscle. I LOVE this program!! I have already noticed my muscles getting tighter!! =) I am still sore every day, but love knowing my muscles are working!

j_chai 21 months ago

I just completed my second round of P90X, and am now starting Insanity. Everyone seems to be focused on pounds, and although that's kind of an important number, start focusing on BMI (body mass index), aka, your body fat. That number is going to tell you a whole lot more than the pounds will. I started my first round of P90X at 150 lbs, I lost a little bit due simply to a diet change, but I have now since gained weight eventhough I'm wearing smaller clothes and my body is MUCH MORE toned. It's not all about pound, folks...

Pep 21 months ago

Has anyone ever skipped part of the rest week (#5). I feel myself bored with the Cardio and Balance everyday. Ready to get on to month 2. Please advise. Don't want to screw up at this point.

emoney 21 months ago

Does insanity require that you work out everyday or is there a day off? and how long approximately are the videos. do people reccomend this over p90x?

Sabres17 21 months ago

Two questions before I buy...1) Can you do this workout on carpeet? and 2) What does everyone do after the 60 days? Whats the best maintenance after that time? Thanks! :)

pep 21 months ago

@ emoney - there is a day off once a week and also recovery week is week 5, whish is really slow (compared to the others that is). month 1 workouts are about 35 - 40 mins/month 2 workouts are about an hour

@ Sabres17 - I'm working out on carpet and it's working out just fine...as far as maintenance, not totally sure yet, but I know I love how I'm feeling in week 6 and don't want to lose it

Just finished day 3- holy calves are sore...I am barely walking but I am excited to keep pushing through and getting through the pain. I also threw up after my first fit test. Was not expecting that!

Amy 21 months ago

I'm 19, 5'5 and 120lbs. I'm not over weight but I'm all skinny fat! ha! No muscle. At all. I dont really work out and I can barely run a mile but really want to try and get in shape. Is this the thing for me or should I start with something else? I'm also terrified of losing weight. I want to replace the fat I have with muscle...

I also have a minor heart condition called IST-inapropriate sinus tachycardia. It basically means that my sinus node is a little out of whack and sends my body the wrong signals. Doing even minor workouts can get my heart up to 200bpm. If any of you are in the medical field or know if this is a baaaaad idea, I would really, really appreciate any advice. :)

TexasP 21 months ago

Amy, I am not a Dr., but please understand that most of this workout is all about speed and getting that heart rate up. So take caution-Probably be best to ask your Dr. first-Watch a couple videos on You Tube to get an idea of what you'd be up against. This may not be the workout for you, it is intense and difficult even for those who are used to working out.

I haven't lost any weight, I am female, 38, 128, 5' 8"...but have toned up quite a bit (been doing it for about a month and a half) Just remember everyone is different.

chubdoc 21 months ago

I have been doing insanity for three weeks now but my schedule is very eratic and with three kids I don't always get in a workout everyday but I do start right up where I left off. I have noticed my body getting more toned and tight even though I have had to skip some days here and there. I am going to keep working Insanity on any day that I can and try to be that hot momma at the beach.

i started up the program today{15 may 2010}.i need to drop some pounds...5.11 245lbs.i'm about to turn 32 and work in law enforcement so its important for me to stay at a fighting weight.the fit test was tough and i'm sore as i type this, but i've done enough pt in my career to understand that it's going to get worse before it gets better.at least on the dvd they encourage you...i'm used to being called names as i sweat.i'll keep you all posted to my progress.good luck to all of us ...oh rahh

Cristina  21 months ago

Hey I was wondering if any of you guys are doing anything else after a day of insanity. Jogging, gym, walking any other type of excersice? I ask because I have not seen any weight loss and I feel that I have put my all in the workouts and I also follow the meal plan.

pep 21 months ago

@ Christina...how far in are you? I saw a pretty significant drop about week two then it slowed down some but it's been staying pretty consistent (3-4 pounds a week). I actually add jogging/walking each time I feel like I've step outside the meal plan to burn a few extra calories.

ladybutterfly 21 months ago

Ohmigosh...this is not for regular people.....i think you would have to be pretty fit to finish a whole session. This is coming from a person exercises regular, but rigorously. I could do an hour on the treadmill or elliptical easily...but i could only strive through 20 minutes of this....it is SOOOO intense. of course ur gonna lose weight off of this...but it's too hard for me.

Ally 21 months ago

Hey guys, I was wondering what you are all planning to do after the 60 days of insanity? How are you guys planning to maintain the new tone body? I'm almost done with my videos and I don't know how to keep my results. Any suggestions?

skybooshay 21 months ago

Thanks for all your posts!!! I felt discouraged by my fit test, I didn't puck...but I can't do the upper body stuff! I just don't have the strength! Ugh!!! At 37, I'm guessing 130 lbs. and 5'4" I really don't (believe it or not) don't really look fat, but I feel it! And I'm totally out of shape! I almost gave up after that fit test, I'm gonna keep trying since I've read all your posts!!! Thanks for being so brave and sharing!!!

I wanna lose about 8-10 lbs in 4 weeks doing insanity, is that possible? Has anyone lost a lot of weight after 4 weeks???

SciChick 21 months ago

Seeing queries about running etc with Insanity: I thought I would do better with additional workouts. So, I run for 30 min at 7.8 mph and do the P90X weights for that day and then do the insanity workout for that day at home, about 4 hours later. I have been doing this for 20 days so far, skipping the days off entirely. I am 40, a mother, wiht 2 jobs, and I went thru menopause at 27 (prematurely) and I have had fibromyalgia for 30 years. So, if I can do this, anyone can, for sure. Yes, I am in pain, and yes I wish each day that I was already done, but I am done with denial about what I really look like. Will post my photos on a web page when I am all done and will chronicle how fibromyalgia changes (or doesn't) the workout process.

The insanity is giving my regular workout the boost it needs and my shape is changing, becoming tighter and leaner. Those results were not forthcoming with my traditional running/stairmaster and P90X weight training.

Atrey 21 months ago

I would like to know if all of you complete the routines of each cd (if u complete the 40 minutes of training) or if u just do part of the routine? i have tried to do it, but after the first 10 minutes of the routines i am without breathe. But even that i cant do the complete routine, i have seen some improvements in my body. Could you share ur "experience"-"progress" with me?

SciChick 21 months ago

I do every second of every DVD. Even if I have warmed up with cardio which is followed by the cardio abs routine, I do that abs warmup as well. I can get thru it by completely turning off my brain and following the entire program, never looking at the timer, just focusing on Shaun's voice and doing everything he says to do. Tedious, yes, but psychologically worth it.

We are ending our 2nd week of Insanity... And we cuss and yell at the tv every night :oP We love it and we will stick with it even though we are exhausted and drenched in sweat. My husband has already lost 8lbs and me NOTHING I have not lost a lb. It can be pretty discouraging but I am going to keep with it and dig deeper. I do the same @SciChick... I do not look at the timer and I focus on Sean T or something on the wall in our basement. Turning off focusing on the time and/or the routine makes it so much harder.

ShellnChad 21 months ago

skybooshay 21 months ago

well, I'm still at, that's not saying much! :) I do all that I can. I only take a break if I feel like my heart is about to jump out of my chest or I can't breathe. But for the most part I just take a quick breath and/sip and get back in there and I agree you got to listen to Sean! That countdown sounds soooo good like you know you can beat it if he says so!!! I'm not tracking my weight, I don't care if I lose or gain I want inches gone, gone, gone! I want energy! I want my skinny waist back, yes I remember it faintly...lol

diva1106 21 months ago

SciChick - Just a piece of unsolicited advice. PLEASE TAKE A DAY OFF FROM YOUR WORKOUTS!! This has nothing to do with anyone's specific system. You actually acclerate your results by getting proper rest and sleep. I did a Figure Competition and my trainer forced me to take time off. Sleep is sometimes particularly helpful if you ever reach a plateau in your workout. Best of luck to all.

Just finnished week 2. When I started I was 215 pound and at the end of week two I am at 209 pounds (I am 6'3" tall). I also felt terrible after the first few workouts of week 1 (very sore and tierd). I am still really tierd after each workout but don't have any of that crazy pain I had the first week. I also am having a much easier time now keeping up with the video. I also feel a lot more toned and can slightly see the difference in my body. Can't wait to finnish the full program.

I travel for a living and suspect that I'll have a problem with ensuring that I get a balanced diet. I don't eat fast food, currently use fatsecret.com site to keep in check with what I put into my mouth. Any suggests in how I can maintain a healthy diet and still have the energy to do the workouts? I just ordered the program in hopes to getting back on track. I cylce and do cardio but tend to get bored quickly. I hope that this will keep me on track and I find it quite attractive due to the fact that one doesn't need other tools other then the CD. :) Good luck to all and I look forward to hearing from you...

well i am almost at 2 weeks, but i only have one disc, i couldnt afford them all and bought one off ebay, and waiting on the second to come, i lost 10lbs in the first week! I did the workout, and cut down on food, and cut out sodas. I also do some weights, not much though.

I think its great!

Help! I'm starting Insanity tomorrow. I was wondering if anyone knows if I can do the InsNity workout and still go to my Bikram yoga class 3-4 times a week. Yoga is an essential part of me taking care of my hairdresser aches and pains and it also helps with my mental endurance. I have done p90x before with no problems as I am pretty fit for a 42 yr old female. 107 lbs at 5'1". I need advise! P.S. Just in case you guys are not familiar with Bikram it is a 90 minute session with 26 poses done in 105 degree room. It's awesome! HELP!

Tenel50 20 months ago

Just finished the fit test and was not encouraged by my results... While I did not throw up I was definitely lightheaded, shaking and took a lot of breaks. I turned 50 earlier this month, 5'7", 139lbs (female)and have become increasinly disgusted with losing muscle tone and the acquisition of a muffin top! Thanks so much for all your posts, I'll start day one tomorrow and give it my best effort.

Hi folks, i feel so happy. I have been doing insanity for 3 weeks, even though that i don't finish the videos for lack of time, i do at least the first ten minutes, my body looks everyday better, and at this point i feel like i can keep the rhythm of the work out, i get tired but not so tired as i did the first day. Wish me good luck so i can continue doing this.....And btw Good Luck to U

Started this today and could of died (The heat didn't help) My first fit test was 50ish, 53, 72, 20, 4, 5, 10, 20... I need to get better at jumping but I'm sure once I get into a groove I can change it around to suit me...

Samantha 20 months ago

I have 2 days left on week 3. Two Fit Tests completed, with an overall improvement of 31%. I more than doubled the number of push-up jacks after just 2 weeks. That's what I call impressive.

@ diva1106...Great advice!!! The rest actually propelled me forward. Was able to "dig deeper" and looks like my weight loss kicked it up a notch. Thanks

Angelag 20 months ago

I am in my second week of insanity and I have to say I am relieved that there are people on here too that puked or felt like puking after the fit test I thought it was just me!! ha ha. Well I am doing insanity because I am way out of shape, I had a baby March 2nd and realized how out of shape and overweight I was obviously because of pregnancy , but also I wasn't in shape to begin with before pregnancy. I have to say it lives up to its name and I love it! I feel good, I am struggling still but I know in the end i will be stronger. I thought I was the only one struggling through these workouts!! but seeing all the posts, I know I am not alone!!

daisydog3 20 months ago

I'm in my third week day 3 and have completed 4 marathons. Had to stop due to knee injury. I am 47 years old. This is a tough workout and very challenging!! I have been able to complete most workouts so far but they are very tough. I can honestly say I'm doing better every day. I havent noticed any weight loss. I am still at the gym 5 days a week doing my weight lifting. My goal is to get a bit leaner, I am 5 3' and 130lbs. How much tougher is month 2? Also, did anybody get a disc called insane abs? Mine doesn't work.

sunshine12109 20 months ago

Did my fit test and lived through it :) I use a website called fatsecret to track my calories in and calories burned. It's somewhat limited. It's a free app on my blackberry in the apps world. It really makes me think about what I put into my mouth. It's a great source of information and I suggest taking a peak. Good luck to all those doing the program...We're all here for each other :)

I'm now on week 7 and just won the 8 week "Biggest Loser" competition on my job. I'm down 34 lbs (14.1%) from day 1 of Insanity. We didn't reveal our methods until after the weigh in this morning. I believe a few more people will be digging deeper later this week. LOL!!!

I weigh 230 pounds and I am looking into loosing weight. I just started the program today and I was wondering how many much weight you think I will loose using this program along with going to the gym almost everyday.

I am in the middle of my 3rd week and I am feeling good, the rest days seem to throw me off for some reason but I am glad I do it, my body is sore on my rest day, i notice that during my workouts after the rest day I am able to do a lot more,I am seeing and feeling a difference in my body!! I am excited to see what happens after the first month!! Hang in there if you are doing this program, its worth it!!

Elyse 20 months ago

I been doin insanity for a week now and I was wondering if I should also be doing more cardio like running for an hour 6 days a week????

MPO 20 months ago

I'm into week-3 of Insanity and I've currently lost 3-lbs and 3/4" off the waist. I've done the calorie math and have determined that each workout burns (for me) about 600-700 calories on average (I'm taking in an average of 2500 C per day- add in the C burned and I would need to eat about 3200 C just to maintain my current weight). I'm 5'10" 164lbs & 36yrs old. I too did P90X prior to Insanity. I started Insanity because P90X was great to add mass, but i wanted to tighten-up the core- and boy does it!!! I think I need to start eating more so I don't loose too much weight! Based on some of the comments above, if you feel you need to add some more cardio like running after doing Insanity, than you're not bringing-it (per Tony H.) or Pushing Through (per Shaun T). Only thing I did add was a weight training day instead of Cardio Recovery because I don't want to loose the gains I made in P90X. After Insanity comes P90X Plus!!!!

Good Luck All!

Wife and I are on Day 2 of week 5. I started at 6ft 240lbs and have managed to drop to 224lbs as of my weigh in today. It hurts. Alot. That said, I'm commited to fitting into size 36 jeans again and feeling good about myself. Work. Sweat. Hurt. Breathe deep and say.."Yes I can"...even when you think you cant...cmon gang, lets do this! Focus on why your doing it, not what it feels like while your doing it. Just remember, keep pushing...never give up...even if its a fraction of what there doing on the video...keep pushing.

Help, what am I doing wrong? I'm in the middle of week 4 of insanity, and I'm not feeling or seeing any results! I've followed the exercise side not missing a day, not so much on the diet side so I'm thinking this is the reason. However, I started this program as an opportunity to dig deeper for I'm already in decent shape, 5'3, muscular, 126 pounds, working out most every day in mixing it up, biking, hiking, wts, yoga, pilate, etc. However, I still have a good 5-8pounds I can afford to get rid of that hangs around my buttocks, and over all body area so that I would be better toned with less fat. In other words, ideal weight is more 118-120.

So here's my deal, I like to mix my training up frequently in order to fool the muscles, and keep a variety so as not to get bored. Well since I've been doing insanity, I've only done this forgoing my other activities. The first week was tough, and felt like it revved my metabolism up in a way like back when I was a kid running track. (I'm 47) The workouts are still challenging and I definitely feel em, sweating like a couchon, and all. If anything I thing they've bulked me up and made me look bigger, yet I'm not dropping inches. If anything, instead of toning, I'm feeling like the hulk. I'm not going to quit now that I'm this far into it, but my question is, when I get into the next weeks, 2nd month will I perhaps then start seeing results? Or, is it simply the diet part that really makes the difference? I eat very healthy following more the mediterranean diet life style. Probably drink too much read wine, which trust me, I feel it the next day when I'm doing the workout. And, probably eat a bit too much cheese. In any event, it almost seems doing insanity has increased my appetite, or something with the intense cardio. I'm feeling I may need to follow the

nutrition plan seriously to see any weight loss. Or go back to my cross-training routines which I would disperse periodically throughout the day vs. one intense workout. Any comments would help. I'm this far into it, and feeling a bit confused whether there is a method to this madness. Thanks for any feedback.

Jane,

If you are working hard, (which it sounds like you are) but are not loosing the weight with doing your workouts- including Insanity, then you need to start counting calories. Loosing body fat really is about calories in and calories out. For every 1-lb of body fat lost, you need to burn or reduce your calorie intake by 3600 calories. Sounds like a lot, I know, but loosing true body fat takes a lot of work. Newby's who loose a lot of weight when they first start to work out are typically loosing water weight (depending on how heavy they are). It is harder for fit people to loose "weight" because your body wants to try to keep some stores for emergency purposes. That ties into the times of eating too. If you eat a meal prior to a cardio workout, your body will utilize that fuel to power you through your workout. If you are a body builder, than that is what you want, but doing a cardio workout for body fat loss is best done in the morning prior to your first meal of the day. In morning, your body uses the blood sugars first, then taps into your fuel stores (fat) to power you through your workout. Just make sure you drink a recovery drink afterwards (or something sugary like orange juice) to replenish your glucose stores in your blood, then eat a meal within an hour after completion...

Good Luck!

Marine Wife 20 months ago

My husband (a SSgt in the Marine Corps) and I are doing the Insanity workout together. We just completed our first week today. My husband is 6'2"- about 210 and I am 5'2" 115 lbs. We normally run 3 miles, 3-5 times a week. However, we got this workout because we liked that it gets you in shape by confusing your muscles. I must say, while I thought my husband and I were pretty fit, this workout made us realize how we were just regular runners. The first week of cardio was a butt kicker, but like many people have mentioned, it has helped raised our energy levels. While my husband and I enjoy running, we like how Insanity pushes you (it's more like mind over matter... you just need to tell yourself you can do more and you want to see results). Anyway, if you are one of those people who just try all kinds of exercise equipment and videos but they end up in the closet soon after you buy them, then this is DEFINITELY not for you! Insanity is for those who are willing to stay committed and to push themselves even when they are sore. I do recommend following the eatting plan as it is helping my husband and I feel better as well and learn to be more aware of what is good fuel for our bodies.

Good luck to everyone!!!!

RobM 20 months ago

I am on the 4th week of Insanity. I am 5'11' and weighed 271 when I started. By the second week I was down to 265. I am not following the nutrition plan religiously but I am counting calories. I have lost an inch around my neck by the 4th week. My body feels great and Insanity reminds me of when I practiced martial arts when I was in high school (about 15 years ago). I would totally recommend Insanity to give your body an overhaul weight wise and health wise.

jane  20 months ago

Hey Fitfiend

Thank you kindly for your advice. I've already taken it into consideration and doing my workouts first thing after waking. I feel the difference already and will continue on watching calorie intake and workout expenditure. I'm also adding a bit of light cardio, a hike or bike ride after dinner. It helps me to wake up hungry and burn the fat during the insanity workout.

Much appreciated,

Still insane

Lina 20 months ago

I'm in week 6 now. I think the weight loss with Insanity may work for those starting from higher numbers... it did not work for me; I started at 108 pounds and gained 5 pounds after 3 weeks... all on my legs. I don't see a lot of improvement on my arms, but I'm not really great at push-ups... even if I'm trying hard and probably make the same effort. Unfortunately, around my waist things are not looking good, probably because of my new appetite... I have to say, Shawn’s Hip Hop Abs combined with low carbs diet worked great for me 3 years ago, when I've lost 16 pounds (in 3 months).

Even if I'm not happy about the weight, I love Insanity, it's pushing you, I cheat very little, maybe 1, 2 sec-s per exercise and I have to say - Finishing it is one of the highlights of my week days... I will probably continue to do it after 2 months, maybe combined with some weeks of Hip Hop Abs or some other exercises...

I guess, my point is... for those who intend to buy it... you will not necessarily lose weight, but I recommend it. It's a Great Workout.

WHAT TO DO AFTER INSANITY!!!!!! I have one week left of insanity before I finish it and I'm worried about what I should do next. I've had great results and I want to keep them and keep adding to those results. Should I do the whole workout over from day 1 or just keep going on day one of month 2? Please any input would be awesome.

I would also like to point out for anyone that may need my physical status to answer my questions that I am 5"6 112 lbs and i am a male. I am in pretty good shape, I ride my bike everyday I am home except for Sunday, and play basketball run, and do 100 sit ups and 10 push ups every day(Sometimes I do the 100 sit ups and 10 push ups 3-5 times a day). I am also wondering if it is worth that money. As mentioned before I am only 14 and I it will be hard for me to buy it. I would really appreciate some answers and help!!!!!!!!

I started this workout 2 weeks ago and i'm very inpressed. I've been following the nutrition plan and working out every evening. So far i've lost 5 lbs and feel great. I have more energy and drive to work out now. So much more then ever before. I'm 5,8, 220 lbs and I'm sure I'll be at 190 or lower when this program is done.

Monica 19 months ago

Im thinking about buying it; Thing is I am going on vacation mid July and I feel like I might not completely dedicate myself to something (plus I'm going to be in an apartment and I want to do this early in the morning...don't know how that works out).

I'm on atkins right now, by august if that doesnt satisfy, insanity is coming

Mike 19 months ago

When I commit to this sort of regimen, I tend to go all in and I have been following the nutrition plan. My advice is to go out and buy a decent heart rate monitor. I had to ease off the intensity or else I was seriously risking giving myself a heart attack. If you're seeing spots in the shower after the workout, you've pushed yourself too hard. My monitor still beeps at me for well over half the program, but at least I keep it within reason and don't hit 95% of my max heart rate like I almost certainly did without the monitor. Now when I see "Know Your Limits" scroll across the screen, I take that literally with respect to my max heart rate.

Tai 19 months ago

I recently lost 35lbs from changing my eating habits and running 3 miles 5 days a week. I purchased the Insanity workout to help me get the last 25-30 lbs off as well as give me a new challenge. My first challenge was jogging - something I've always hated doing. However, it was probably the best thing I started doing for myself. It helped me get the weight off. Now here's my new challenge- Insanity. I am on Week 1, day 3 and I have to admit, it's soo much harder to get out of the bed to do this than it was to go out and run. But I made a promise to myself and my body, that I would do this for us. MOre importantly, I could be crazy, but I swear I see results ALREADY. I didn't even know who I was in the mirror this morning!

I have Celiac Disease, so alot of the items in the nutriton guide will not work for me. However, I just continue to eat 5 small meals consisting of protein and vegetables. Is that okay? Anybody know? I'm wondering if any of you have any suggestions of what I can have immediately after my work out, because I am so exhausted sometimes, I feel like passing out. I take a shower then lay back down for a little while before I get up for work. Lastly, how long will it take me to make through an entire workout? I feel like my 3 miles was in vain, because I can't make it through anything completely and my calfs and arms are so sore, I can barely walk!!

Everyone just keep going! Be smart about your food choices and keep your body moving! And don't feel guilty about the occasional cookie. Life is short. You will feel great if you continue the workout. If you don't see the results you want as quickly as you might like, supplement with a bit of walking or jogging. You are getting more toned and muscular and making your body much more efficient by doing INSANITY. Hang in there people and dig deeper!!!!

I am 52 years old and started Insanity about 3-1/2 weeks ago. When I started I weighed 134 lbs. I am not quite 5'2" tall so 134 is too much. I had been in decent shape until about 3 years ago when I started to see the lbs creep on due to lack of regular intense exercise and menopause. Pants stop fitting. I started to get fat all around my middle and butt and legs. I felt crummy and fat and knew it wasn't going to get better if I didn't do something. In 3-1/2 weeks on Insanity, I have lost 9 lbs and am looking really fit - arm muscle definition, legs, stomach. I am fitting into clothes I have not worn for 3 years. I am pumped! It is the most intense workout I've ever done and it is working! what's great too is that I travel a decent amount because I own my own business and this is the perfect workout for that. I love you Shaun T!

Lori 19 months ago

I thought I would post since I'm currently doing the Insanity workout.

I am a 35 year old female, small-framed (I will NOT post my weight) and am the mother of 3. My daughter is 3 and I have twin 6.5 month old boys.

I started Insanity on April 27th and as of today (July 19th), I have lost about 5 inches from my waist. I didn't even think I had that kind of weight to lose. Was I necessarily athletic before I started the workout? No. But chasing after a 3 year old is pretty cardio-intense some days. Have I religiously done the workout? Not necessarily. I have 3 kids, after all, so I am only able to workout in the evenings after everyone has gone to bed and some days I've been too tired or hadn't felt my best. I personally try to stick to the calendar as much as possible.

Is the workout hard? HELL YES. But is it worth it? YES YES YES YES YES. My husband puked during the fit test. But he had also eaten a very heavy meal right before attempting it. I have been lightheaded a couple of times, but I think that I was holding my breath when I was working out and didn't realize it.

One thing that I had to keep remembering was that when I started this workout, I was not in any shape. At least, I didn't think I was. I struggled through many of the workouts and got depressed looking at how fit and toned quite a few of the Insanity Crew were. But they didn't get that way overnight. I was inspired by Shaun T's demeanor, his sense of humor (he does get funny in the videos) and just my desire to look and feel better about myself. I started this workout and was like "holy (*&^%", I just wasted a ton of money. But now that I'm this far along, I will say that I am THANKFUL that I spent it. My husband has long ago given up on working out - at least for now, but I'm still going on. I had a rough week last week, so I'm re-starting the week that I was in the middle of and I'll just keep going and doing my best.

Taking photos of yourself during the progression of the workout is an excellent idea and I just looked at my "before" photos yesterday and didn't even realize how bad I looked. I also take regular measurements of my body progression (on the days of the fit test) so that I can see my results.

For those that are hesitant, you may want to try something else first, but if you're daring enough, it IS possible to do this workout. It may take you a bit longer, but you will most definitely still see results.

I am running everyday Monday- friday 5 miles a day but that is not enough and the gym is starting to beocme boring to me I want a challenge and I feel that the Insanity program can give me that... I am happy for everyone who has achieved real results thru this program =) I hope I can do the same in 2 months!

Jo, if it makes you feel any better, I went back and forth between being excited and scared to death to try it. But once you start going, its hard to stop. Shaun T is a great motivator and just to listen to the things he says can be entertaining. I know in one of the workouts, he says "Shaun T is so tired, I've forgotten the names of my moves!" And to see professionals telling him that they feel like crap or actually dropping to the floor at the end of the workout makes me feel better ehrn I can't finish an exercise. I hope you like the workout!

39 yrs old female 5'4 150lbs, ex military. I have been working out on and off for the past 5 yrs, but never sweat this hard. I am in week 2 of p90x in the morning and week 1 insanity in the evening. My goal is to be lean and lose between 10 to 20lbs. I am following the nutritional plan to certain but not religious. Will I be able to reach my goal?

Hey guys!

I'm 5'1" and I weigh 196. I want to lose between 40 and 50 pounds in five months.I started Insanity a day ago and believe it or not I also puked right after the 6th exercises,so I went to the bathroom did what I had to do and then I came back to finish the fit test. I'm really looking forward to my second day (which it starts in 3 hours)

Marcie 18 months ago

Hi I am on day 5 of the workout. I haven't worked out in months and I am doing as much as I can. I haven't lost any weight yet. I'm 5'3 and 167. I do have more energy and I can't wait to see what my results will be after the next two weeks. I'm going to a fancy wedding in exactly 15days and would love to tone up and shed a dress size. I'm not following the nutrition plan but I am cutting out soda and changing my eating lifestyle. After insanity I plan on doing p90x. So hopefully by Christmas I can go to the beach in a new body :)

Hey Guys! I need help!

I started Insanity... Did the first month and recovery week. Then I got sick for 2 weeks (horrible virus). After not working out for 2 weeks I felt I needed to give it my all so I started de Max workout. After doing 4 days I noticed my body was too tired. couldn't finished that week so I went back to week 1 day 5 and continued like that. I did week 2 after that... My question is... should I start max training now? or do I continue doing week 3? I will be traveling in 1 week and will probably have to miss most of the week.... Please help... Thanks!

Marcie 18 months ago

I'm on my second week of insanity and I'm not seeing any huge results I've actullay went from 165 to 167. And being so over weight bc I'm only 5'3. I thought the weight would melt off. So I'm going to add walking to my workouts a few days a week and live off of lettuce and grilled chicken for a while. I would love to lose 15lbs before I go to this wedding I was just invited too. Which is In two weeks.

aaron 18 months ago

I just finished my 60 day Insanity workout. I wont lie, it was tough, but Ive seen some good results. I followed the menu pretty good, but I wasnt measuring all my foods... thats a little too excessive. I didnt get ripped abs like you see on the commercials. BUT, i lost alot of my love handles and my stomach definitely got smaller. I did cut out ALOT of sugar and carbs from my diet, and I stuck with the entire program, only missing about 2 or 3 days the whole time. Towards the end, my right knee was getting really sore, due to all the "jump" training that you do, espically the 2nd month.

All in all, I recommend this workout, but you have to have a dedicated mindset from the beggining.

Good luck all!!

Marcie 18 months ago

Week 2 day 2 just finished pure cardio. Not the whole DVD but more thanast week. I haven't workedout in years so I feel good abou my own pace. I might now have lost weight but I cam still feel the extra energy and it's also day 2 of my low carb lifestyle. Not that bad. The more I work out the more my body craves GOOD food. I started the dr.natura 60 day cleanse. It will give me a boost in my healthy eating and calorie output. I love insanity. It feels good to real out in a sweat everyday. :) 10 more days until the wedding and I hope to be a size 9 and more toned :) good luck everyone!

Happy to

say that it's week 2 day 4 and I lost 2lbs. I skipped cardio recovery yesterday. I started a new job so I figured I would recover by spending time with my boyfriend :). I made big changes in my diet. Two eggwhites one yolk for breakfast. Toast. Lettuce cheese( sandwich) light miracle whip. Glass of oj. Lunch lasgna and salad. Dinner plum and a salad.

Skip breakfast today replace with powerbar. Maybe... If I have time I'm running late.

Lunch is a BBQ at work. Burger with bun. Need the carba for workout after work.

Dinner salad

I'm trying to replace my bread carbs with good carbs. And only breads and pastas for lunch so that I can work them out during the day.

I am taking it slow with the cleanse bc the shits almost made me late fr work. So I'm eating activia yogurt. Strawberry is great. Peach yuck!

Good luck everyone!

BP 18 months ago

HI

i am on my second week of insanity but i am not sore, what does that mean? am i not pushing myself hard enough or am i doing something wrong. if i am going to invest 60 days into this i want to do it right. please help.

Bill 18 months ago

BP, i was sore for the first few days but that has been it. all the stretching is helping to prevent the soreness. i am in the recovery week (4 weeks in) and my hip flexors are a quite tight because they really work them hard on the recovery week. i think it is important to really do the exercises properly, for example lifting legs high in "high knees:". it is easy to "cheat" some of the exercises when we get tired.

Bill 18 months ago

Question: i am nervous about moving into month two because the month 1 workouts were challenging. should i repeat month 1 before i try month 2 workouts or just go for it. i have improved, but still find the month 1 workouts killer.

Mo 18 months ago

Marcie, you probably should not do a low carb diet during the insanity challenge and you'll be burning right through your muscle if you have no glycogen stores to backup your workouts. If I were you, I would stick to the nutrition plan that comes with the dvds instead of endangering your health for unrealistic goals.

nightninja 18 months ago

I really want abs, and I think this program could help. I watched the commercial on abcfamily and I only have one question. If I am 14 years old, should I do Insanity, and if so will it give me the results I want?I would also like to point out for anyone that may need my physical status to answer my questions that I am 5"6 112 lbs and i am a male.

Bill 18 months ago

ok, i have started month 2 and yesterday's workout was killer because i did the fit test AND the first MAX workout which is an hour long. all the instructors were struggling. so far i have lost 2.5 inches on my waist and 1.5 inches on my chest.

nightninja, i know there is a shaun t workout called "Get Real" for teenagers, but i would ask you doctor before buying. if you make sure you rest when needed, most people can do the workout, but it is very challenging.

nightninja 18 months ago

Cool thanks Bill. I've been waiting all summer for a reply I'll check that out.

nightninja 18 months ago

Thanks a lot Bill! I just saved a long time of having to save up money, saved $100 snd probably a trip to the doctor as well!!! I'm buying it today or tomorrow I'll keep everyone posted though!!! Wish me luck!

Rachel 18 months ago

Yesterday I started week 3. When I started my second fit test yesterday I was concerned that my numbers would be the same or worse than when I did my initial fit test. The concern probably stems from the fact that I took a week off. Yeah, I said it, I took a week off.

During my vacation from the program I found myself sitting on the couch eating pizza, drinking beer and watching tv. Then I realized that I needed to get back into the program. I started to think about all the time and SWEAT I put into my first two weeks and how I was throwing it all away sitting on my @$$. I thought about going back to day 1 but decided against it .. I picked up right where I left off. I was pleased to see that my fit test numbers improved even though I had taken a week off.

Today's workout left me feeling a little sore... which I should expect after stepping away for a week. I'm back in it. If you stray like I did don't give up... get back on the horse and keep going!

One thing I would like to add about the workouts. I have found that I need to modify some of the workouts so I can keep pushing. For example: power squats... when I started I just focused on the squat.. I took out the jump... just squatting was hard enough without adding a jump into the mix... same thing for the ski move... I took out the jump. Now that I'm in my third week I incorporate a few jumps into my squats... my goal is to keep proper form and keep my core tight... I hope that helps anyone who might be struggling through the first week or two of the program.

This isn't tap dancing!

FLBoysMom 18 months ago

I am currently in week 6 of Insanity. It has been really hard and I sweat like crazy, but I feel so good when I am done. I haven't lost much weight, about 1 pound a week, but my body is changing shape. I have lost over 3 inches in my my waist and 1 inch in each thigh. Being a 41 year old woman, it is important to get a handle on the weight and fitness now, before it's too late!

As for soreness, I was sore the first day after the Fit Test. Everyday after I have taken the Advocare Post Workout Recovery formula. I am sure it is similar to the Beach Body Results and Recovery formula. I haven't been really sore since then, even when I jumped to the Max level. I definitely feel my muscles and know they have been used, but not sore.

My plan is to finish Insanity and then try P90X. I haven't decided if I will do it straight through or do a hybrid of the Insanity and P90X. Any thoughts? For once I am sticking with a workout and seeing results! After giving birth to 5 boys, I am finally able to get back into a bikini and not look like the fat mom. That is exciting!

Good luck everyone and hang in there.

Jill 18 months ago

Insanity is by far the hardest workout I've ever done. I am a spin instructor and thought I was in pretty good shape spending 2 hours at the gym every day. I have almost finished month 1 and am excited about month 2. I still don't feel "rockstar" with month 1 and I'm wondering if I should do month 1 again before starting month 2?? During pure cardio I can't even get through the 15 minutes of each exercise for 1 minute without pausing it. Please let me know what you think....Insanity is awesome!

nightninja 18 months ago

Jill-I haven't done this workout myself, but after reading almost every comment ever made and watching the infomercial at least 20 times, I think you should keep pushing on through. You should never EVER press pause, that defeats the whole concept. You're don't have to keep up with the people on the video. They are in really good shape. Lastly, if you don't see huge results, it doesn't matter it's not just for 60 days do the workout again and again.

JMan 18 months ago

ok...so this is like my 3rd time doing the Insanity workout. I have changed up my diet and added weight lifting in the evening on mon through fri and im seeing changes! Im also going to change my weight lifing routine every 3 to 4 weeks. i have compared pics and im getting muscles and cuts where i never thought i could get them. something is telling me to keep pushing so that's wut im doing! if anyone reads this and can give me some more advice then by all means do so! u can reach me at tiburon_dude03@yahoo.com

ok so here's my story. I am a 47 yr old female, 195 lbs at 5'5" and out of shape. About 3 years ago I lost 50 pounds on a high protein low carb diet so I was at 180, gained 15 back over the last year or so and had to stop myself from gaining anymore, hell I'm not going back there again! I have never worked out consistently ever in my entire life. I joined the gym once and was going faithfully every day, 2 hours a day for a month and then stopped going. Got Insanity. Today is week 2 day 2. OH MY GOD!!! I did the fit test and thought I was going to die, but to tell you the truth I did pretty good. It was gruelling but I kept up finished it without feeling light headed or like puking. The first workout day (last tuesday) I thought I was going to die. I was drenched in sweat and my face was beet red before I got half way through the workout but I finished it. I didn't do as many reps of each exercise as they did but I finished it. I think it was the next day or the day after, there is one place in the workout where they are in an open leg stance crouched with their hands on their legs and shaun t is explaining something so we were in that position for too long I was dieing, my leg was in so much pain that I started to cry. yip, I cried during Insanity. I thought these people are crazy...you have to be insane to do Insanity! but I kept with it, I will not give up. I do it faithfully every day, I follow the eating program to the letter. I am doing it 100%. but I am terrified. i do not like it or look forward to it. everytime its time to do my workout I break out into a cold sweat LOL and I am terrified, but I just make myself do it. in week 1 I was in pain everywhere, when I slept at night it hurt to roll over in bed, it hurt to walk, it hurt to stand, it hurt to sit, but now i'm in week 2 and it doeesn't hurt as much. I've only lost 2 pounds but I know that I will lose more, I just have to stick with the program and it will happen. in the beginning I thought this was too much for me maybe I should return the program, but then I said no way, I'm going to do this if its the last thing I do in my life. I used to be hot when I was younger and skinnier and damn it I'm gonna be hot again!

manuel00 17 months ago

way to go slim1!

I started insanity yesterday, just finished todays workout and i felt like i was going to die. Yesterday made me puke lol. Hopefully i get the results i want:)

Jeff 17 months ago

I am on my rest week with Insanity and those of you that have asked when do you see results, I would say I started seeming them after my 2nd fit test. I can say this is one of hardest workouts I have ever done. I graduated from the P90X and started Insanity the next day. I was sore after the fit test and thought to myself what the hell am I doing? I kept pushing and things got easier, I will say I am a little concerend for round 2, but really liking the results so far.

My stats, when I started the P90x at the end of April, I was 6'1 291 lbs 46 year old male, currently I am the same height and age, but weigh 225 lbs. I started a diet at the end of March and after a month and almost losing 20 lbs that first month I was highly motivated. I will say that I haven't lost that much weight doing Insanity, but trully look and feel better.

Anika 17 months ago

mac 17 months ago

I knew I was out of shap in the legs to begin with but didn't realize how far out in cardio I was. I work in a warehouse and move brown boxes for 10 to 12 hours 4 to 6 days a week. My calves hurt from first and second day waited 48 hours and picked back up. My legs hurt to start but the pain was gone when I finished... 5'9" 145lbs and 30 years. Best advice for starters; pace yourself. I wore myself out trying to keep up in the first 2 videos I had to stop for a long period and pick up at the stretches at the end. 3 video I made it all the way through.

Don 17 months ago

I received my Insanity package yesterday and watched the Fit Test DVD to see what I have to look forward to, looks like it's going to be a challenge. And there is no way I can keep up with either of two doing the test. I plan on starting Monday (Labor Day). I'm 42, 6'1", 225 LBS.

Excellent post, excellent content! I finished Insanity and really enjoyed it; although I didn't lose any weight like I wanted. You can see my journey at www.goofyfitnessdad.com, and I'm now doing P90X and training for a marathon. I think diet is the biggest factor in weight loss.

slim1 17 months ago

me again for an update. thank you manuel00 and anika! anika, get the program you will love it. but it is a huge commitment. so i am in week 4 day 5. i am following the nutrition plan almost to the letter. so 4 weeks is almost over and i have lost 9 pounds. yes, that is correct 9 pounds in less than 4 weeks. for weight loss the nutrition plan is key people. i have found most of the people on this post are not following the eating plan and didn't lose alot of weight. so for those that want weight loss, please follow the nutrition plan they provided and it will happen. so about my workout, I am no longer afraid of it. i am committed 100%. i improved dramatically on my second fit test. i am seeing physical results besides the weight loss..for example, i have definition in my arms..shocking! good luck to everyone. i will check in again in a few weeks.

Need your thoughts on this.

Hey Phildatious, yeah that would be cool. I did my fit test last night, results not great but guess not too bad for the first time.

Natalia 17 months ago

I'm on my 2nd week, day 2; I'm improving on every day new work out and I feel great about that, but there is something that it's REALLY Discoraging me ...

Gaining weight. I’m a 28 Yr old female, not thin, but not chubby. I started in 112, and today I’m 117.4 Kg (The sacale Went up)

I don’t want to stop doing my routines, as I’m very committed, but why is that instead of losing weight I’m gaining weight? I don’t drink sodas, I eat pretty much very healthy + drink a lot of water…. When would I start losing weight. It’s weird that even that I sweat a lot during the work out my scale is going up : ( I really want to keep going, every day I can’t wait to come from work and start my work out, my friends are saying I’m Insane I’m so Proud of being it, but this weight problem is killing me. What can I do?

Natalia 17 months ago

Regarding my prev. Comment...

I made a mistake on my weight: I started 112 Ponunds, and today, 1 week later on my second day My weight os 117.4 Pounds not Kg

Don 17 months ago

Natalia,

Sometimes weight can be deceiving, you are probably building muscle and burning fat which may make your weight go up at first. It's best to check measurements. Sounds like you are doing great though, keep it up!

msNursern 15 months ago

Hey, I just finished week 3 of insanity with Shaun T. I also have been doing P90X and then P90X+ with Tony Horton. I have missed Tony for these three weeks, but the insanity workouts are great for my abs and I definately think you need to be in very good physical shape before you start the insantity program. I HATE the mummy kicks and football drills I don't want to end up with big beefy calves. I don't think he has the personality of Tony, but of course I'm seeing great results and I'll stick it out through the next five-six weeks. Anybody doing the kettleworx? That will probably be my next one after I'm done with insanity. I'm 43 years old, 5'2" and about 118 and I hope to lose about ten pounds would be great; with P90X and the P90Xplus I could never lose that extra ten. Maybe now?

Rebecca 14 months ago

I'm probably the most senior on here at 51, to be 52 next month. I am in my last week of P90X right now and will be starting Insanity after Christmas, as my daughter is a Beachbody coach and will be giving it to be as a Christmas gift. I'm very proud of myself for being 5'5" and 125 and super fit at 51 and I have no doubts that I will tackle Insanity just as I did with P90X. Remember all, age is just a number:)

Aaron 14 months ago

I am looking to start the programe next week. I will be doing majority of my workouts first thing in the morning before breakfast because of work, has anyone tried this, do you recommend it or should I try and do my workouts in evening?

sam 14 months ago

Aaron,

I am a single father of a 2 and 4 year old so I get up at 5:30 AM to get through the workouts before my daughters wake up. It is no problem at all if you get good sleep the night before. I prefer the morning because saving it for the evening gives too many excuses to skip your workout later on. I just finished the program yesterday and at 32 have never been in better shape in my life. The first month I looked forward to the workouts, but the second month I dreaded them. All I can say is keep pushing. Don't obsess over your weight, but instead use your measurements as a gauge of your progress. You will gain muscle in your legs and upper body so you may not think you're losing the weight and lose hope. I would just see how many notches you can take your belt down to gauge your progress. Lastly, don't obsess with keeping up with the people on the video and never ever pause the video. Shaun T repeats a million times that its ok to take a short break and get back in it. Pausing the video gives you too much of a chance of taking a long break. Good luck!!

Aaron 14 months ago

Sam that is good advice thanks, i agree with you measurements are a better way of monitoring progress than the scales, i have learnt this the hard way in the past. I will also like to ask if i will be doing too much if i was to do weight training 3 days a week in the evenings witht the insanity workouts in the morning.

Deb 14 months ago

I'm 37 5.5 185lbs. I'm on day5 of week 1. This insanity DVD is great. Its keeps you focused and commited. The time flies by as you're sweating and grunting thru the excercises. It feels like you are there with them. I have never in my life liked cardio, but Shaun is amazing and you stay in the moment and breath thru the pain and fatigue. I can see a difference in the first week. My energy level, my self esteem, my sex life, my work life...everything. My house has never been so tidy and organized as this excercise DVD is a lifestyle change in so many aspects, physical and mental. I recommend this to any one with no excercise experience, other than maybe walking your dog everyday to do this, it works, it makes you look good and feel good. Do it...I dare you to!

edi 13 months ago

im 26 and 5'6 and 186 lbs.did my fit test today and came up with 34,46,56,16,2,5,8,16 . decided to try out insanity after plateauing on regular exercises i was doing which helped me drop 12 pounds ( jump rope/walking 3miles) in the last month. i had my own pause extra minute break between each exercise set so factored in a -4 from all on the actual numbers. even with all that i felt like puking ( really controlling not to ). so i am going to pace myself give it my best but not enough to kill me. insanity is about improving fitness and my goal is to improve my present fitness and break a plateau. which would translate as going at my own pace and factoring in simple movements ( light jogging in place ) while taking rest .

Advice to all Overweight People Do not get intimidated , move at your own pace you will still see results for most overweight people the people you see on the video might be half the size you are so its ok if you are able to do only half the workout( or less than that ). you will definitely get better once you finish the program .

YOU are the measure of your Progress and not the people on the video.

Trueplayer 13 months ago

I've just read this entire blog, I stated the course today. I do Martial Arts, but only once a week and recently have not been able to train like I would like mainly through injury. I'm 29 5"9 and my weight fluctuates between 160-170 lbs. I also smoke!

After doing the fitness test, I was dead, I wanted to pass out or something, but sitting down for about 30mins sorted me out.

I think this plan is for anyone, I would even recommmend it for old people or teens, you just push as hard as you can. If you are not already running, etc, don't even try and keep up with the guys on the vid, some excercises should just be done slower. As a young person who is quite fit, it's about pushing as hard as possible to point of passing out, eventually it will become easy. People who are holding a little weight or are older, just can't push as hard, but you still need to push yourself within your limits; if you are not dripping with swet, you are not pushing hard enough.

All those asking if they should do this becase they just had a baby, c-section or not, or you have some kind of illness. Just ask you doc if a high intensity workout where your heart rate is going to be pushed to the max is ok.

In terms of weight loss: You people really need to get perspective. You are clearly burining cals on a course like this. If you are eating too much, you will put on weight in the way of fat. BUT your weight is not important, you are constantly burning fat and increasing muscle mass, and as muscle is heavier than fat. If you want to loose weight, don't eat, simple. I've lost a stone (20lbs) in a month this way. This video is about getting into shape. Measure you BMI, not your lbs. Look at yourself. Take pics, measurements, etc.

In terms of diet, I'm going to contiune to eat what I eat. Not overly healthy, but I'm not concerned about lbs, I just want to tone and burn body fat from my lower ab area.

You should do this before you eat in the morning if you want to burn fat! you will be burning your bodies reserves rather than the food you have fueled it with that day.

The fatter you are, the harder this is going to be but the better the results you will see. You have more to do, so get on with it. Stay committed.

I'm going to follow this course up with the P90 followed by insanity again and then a 2 week break in Thailand training in a martial arts facility. If by Aug I'm not seeing the results I want then I can honestly say it wont be possible for me with the lifestlye I live (computer 12hours a day 5 days a week). I know I will be fitter though!

Enjoy

Sam that is good advice thanks, i agree with you measurements are a better way of monitoring progress than the scales, i have learnt this the hard way in the past. I will also like to ask if i will be doing too much if i was to do weight training 3 days a week in the evenings witht the insanity workouts in the morning.good

HI warriors!

I started doing this well...this is what I did, I did the fit test on a Thurs.(results: now this first one I must have counted wrong, cause I got 107 and I see everyone here was in their 50s..power jacks 55, 76,31, 7,13,10,40) then I did the 1st dvd on the Fri. the 2nd on the Sat, rested on Sun. rested Monday (when fit test was supposed to be done, since I had already done it) and started day #2 and did #3 today (total 5 workouts)IT IS HAAAARDDD and I do have to pause it, but when I do, for example during pushups, it's not to rest, it's to do the pushups but at my own pace, because I feel that if I go too slow while i follow them, I'll end up doing too few. ANYHOW, MY ONE BIG CONCERN, that I haven't hear anyone mention yet and Idid read many comments, is that just today (exercise #5) my knees have started to hurt. I fear it might be the impact doing damage to them, but on the other hand, I'm not sure if I should just take it as my body (also knees) just going through the "adjusting" motion. ANYBODY ELSE FEEL/FELT THIS? I don't really have knee problems, except the occassional pain here and and there. I am female, 31, 5'4 128 lbs...

ALSO, QUESTION...DO ALL OF YOU THAT HAVE GOTTEN FAR IN THE PROG. TAKE OR HAVE TAKEN THE RECOVERY FORMULA?

Please please please get back with some anwser, specially the knee one. Thanks and great job to all! WE CAN DO THIS!

Miss Babou 13 months ago

Just to give you an idea how its works just finished the first week and lost 4lbs and my husband lost 9 lbs. we love the program and are very motivated it is like a drug now we are happy to do it even if it comes with sore muscles once and a while. TO EVERYONE THAT WANTS A PUSH JUST DO IT AND DO IT TO YOUR OWN PACE AND IT WILL PAY....... Good luck and will keep you updated with the results... lets all motivate each other it is easier.....

Kathy 13 months ago

Just started on Monday. I'm struggling with pushing myself harder. Since it's just me working out in front of my TV at 5 am, as long as I don't think about it, I'm okay. But when I stop at all (mostly after the 30 sec breaks), I have issues starting up again and then pushing harder ("digging deep"). My sister said that it would get easier to push harder because I'll know better what i'm doing, etc, and i hope she's right.

I have noticed some knee pain, etc, but I think that as long as I'm careful to keep my knees in line with my ankles adn behind my toes, I will be okay... but that is easier said than done, of course.. ha

My sister definitely recommends a recovery and results formula. She isn't using the BeachBody one, though. that is EXPENSIVE!! She got a generic one from Wal-Mart (I assume I could find it many places), and she said it works as well... That's my plan, then (so guess where I'm going after work!)...

Good luck, everyone!

Started Insanity on Monday...although, it had the warnings to not do it if you're not somewhat inshape, I completely ignored them. I am overweight for my height: weighing in at 196.6 (191.4 after 5 days) at 5"2. But looking at me, you can't tell, I'm thick. However, I have belly fat and really looking forward to losing some of it while doing Insanity...wish me luck!!!

Lisa 12 months ago

I started Insanity 5 days ago. The first day I couldn't walk after the fit test, but at least I pushed through and completed it. The next day I was so sore I didn't think I could possibly workout but I did and felt amazing afterwards. Today was pure cardio and I pushed myself harder than I have ever in my life. My heart rate was around 200 and then I puked, but afterwards, I felt amazing. I'm excited to keep going. I'm struggling with the nutrition part of it, simply because I'm not used to eating so often. I usually eat once or twice a day and 5 times is a bit of an adjustment.

David 12 months ago

I just started... and yes i threw up on the first day too. I'm 5'11" 160lbs not in bad shape at all, or so i thought. It's definitely an intense workout but I'm determined to do it

Hey guys. I was just wondering if anyone knows what specific food(s)I should be eating to help lose my body fat. I'm doing the workout, but I want a good way to eat healthy too. Any suggestions?

Mike, read the nutrition guide and follow it to the letter!

I read the comments and facepalmed every single time I read "btw im not following the nutrition guide... i'm not losing weight why is this???"

NUTRITION IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. YOUR WORKOUTS ARE INCREDIBLY LESS EFFECTIVE IF YOU DON'T EAT PROPERLY

Seriously. You're wasting your time and effort if you're not eating right.

I love the Insanity Workout

argh! i am starting it this week!

Marie 12 months ago

Hey ya'll, I'm 19 and in college and today was my third day of Insanity. Ive been following the nutrition program and everything. I'm in my right weight range for my age and height. But I haven't heard much about girls results...will Insanity trim the fat around my stomach and love handles and all that?

jimmy infamous 12 months ago

Hey Marie,

I'm currently going through my second stint of Insanity. I've gotten in great shape and I no longer have the back problems I used to have since I gained muscles to my core and back. But, I will say my biggest problem has been following the nutrition guide. After my workout, I sometimes feel like I owe it to myself to eat something that's not healthy. Very bad habit to get into and I'd say I've wasted some time to get to my goal of approx. 8% body fat. The nutrition guide is quite an essential part to the workout and if you want to lose weight and get trimmed the quickest way, follow the guide. Hope this helps as a little motivation!

jenna 12 months ago

can you add more fruit and veg to the nutrition plan or will that affect the results?

jimmy infamous 12 months ago

As far as eating more fruits and vegetables than illustrated in the nutrition plan, I wouldn't see an issue with that. Either way, whatever food you eat, make sure that you don't eat to the point you feel too full. Instead of eating say, 2 or 3 times a day and feeling full each time, try eating small portions of food throughout the course of a day. I struggle with doing that still, but that's the best way to be healthy and get in fantastic shape.

hey guys,

i am 135 lbs and i do not want to loose weight but i do want to get ripped and get some nice arms and toned abs along with a nice chest.

will this help me achieve that?

thanks

NitaInVan 12 months ago

I am female, 5'5 and 146 lbs. I have been going to the gym, running on and off for a few years. I am losing and gaining the same stupid 10-15 pounds. I am at my highest weight and at my lowest point. I just bought the Insanity DVD set yesterday and am starting tomorrow. My goal is to wake up at 6 a.m. Mon-Fri to do this. I have a trip planned to Miami in 6 weeks. Hoping I can drop a few inches and pounds before the trip...but I think I've realized it is more than that...I need to do this overall for my health...I don't want to keep losing and gaining the same pounds.

To the regulars out there, how much weight should I expect to lose in six weeks if I follow the nutritional plan as well?

jenna 12 months ago

Hey NitalnVan, I dropped an inch of my waist, bust, thighs and half inch on arms after 7 days :) I am now on day 10 and have high hopes, Im doing it 6 days a week and following the nutrition plan as best I can. Go by size not weight as you will build muscle which is denser than fat, so you may end up dropping a few sizes but weight wise may be similar. Well done for starting it and stick at it, I thought I was well fit before due to all the exercise I do.....but this workout is in a class of its own, I couldnt even get through the warm up without stopping to begin with, I can only just now get through that part without stopping haha! Keep us updated with how your getting on!

Adam 12 months ago

I've done two rounds of insanity, and got great results. I'm just waiting to recover from surgery that i got done recently until i do insanity again, hopefully i wont gain any weight. But i was just wondering, what results and recovery formula Shaun T. refers to in his workouts. And if whey protein would be a good alternative for my results and recovery formula when i start insanity again. Or the p90x results and recovery formula? If anybody got any suggestions, please post them. Thanks

Jimmy Infamous 12 months ago

NitaInVan,

That sounds great that you're deciding to start your workout first thing in the morning! There's a link below for an small article that discusses more about the significance/benefits of working out first and foremost, as opposed to working out after a hard day at work, for example. If you can manage to stick with the early workouts, do it, otherwise if you can't fit in it early in the morning, then don't fret, because as long as you work out at any point in the day, it's a lot better than not working out at all.

I would say it's possible to shed some weight in 6 weeks for your trip to Miami, but make sure that you are being healthy about it and not pushing yourself too much (i.e. working out several times a day, barely eating...). Jenna is right that muscle turns to fat, but if you have well-balanced meal plans each day and do you workouts, I don't see how you couldn't lose weight. You build muscle through Insanity, but due to the nature of the program being cardio, your body will get toned (or cut); whereas people can gain a lot of muscle mass by having a strong emphasis for hitting the weights.

Bottom line, if you truly stick with it and tell yourself not to quit, you'll see results. Keep in mind that everyone's body is different, so some people may lose weight quicker/slower than others based your physical makeup, metabolic rate, etc. Best of luck!

anon 12 months ago

just a few q's, does it matter if some of the meals are swapped round, e.g i have one of the meal 4's at meal 3 time and so forth, this is because some of the stuff you cant make at work so to make it easy i have to mix it about, but still getting plenty of fruit/veg with it? other question, on the day off is it ok to have a treat, or have one meal out here and there, i dont mind saving the calories up for the day by having extremely low cal stuff for brekkie and lunch like fruit, youghurt etc and then being able to have a proper meal out like 3 courses and a glass of wine bear in mind its something i dont do often (twice a month maybe)

Brian 12 months ago

I borrowed Insanity from a friend and have been doing it for about 1.5 months. Other than my endurance increasing, I have hardly seen any results and have maybe only lost 1 pound or two. However I don't have the meal plan nor do I drink the 'results and recovery formula.' I know eating right is critical, but I don't pig out and my diet isn't bad right now. I am just surprised that I don't see more results just by completing the workouts alone. Any thoughts??

jen 12 months ago

Calorie consumption and nutrition are vital you are right, I know its a hard workout anyway but are you working at your max? Maybe a heart rate mintor may help with this as it will tell you if you can push harder without popping your clogs!

NitaInVan 11 months ago

Hey Jimmy and Jenna,

thanks for the advice and encouragement guys!!! You guys are sweet. This is pretty cool, the whole chatting with strangers deal.

Jenna- Good for you...awesome results for only 7 days.I hope I can achieve the wonderful results you did.

I'm doing good. I honestly can't do some of the exercises yet but I just modify what I can't do...for example the push ups...I do the "girly" pushups cause I can't do the real ones yet.

This workout I find is harder than some bootcamp classes I've been to. I thought P90X was crazy...this is INSANE...now I know why its called Insanity.

I can actually feel my body saying "I"m in pain"

I like how he really pushes you to the limit and I totally know I'm working out hard because I'm breathing like crazy and sweating as well and wanting to kill myself at the same time. LOL

Jimmy Infamous- Thanks for your advice...I'll be sure to not over do it and my meal plans are pretty good. I think you said you are on your second round of Insanity...how is it the second time around?

This is what I'm putting into myself these days as I feel there is no point in me doing this insane workout if I'm not fueling my body the right way...the amounts I find work just right for me and I feel fuller all day cause I'm eating 4-6 small meals a day every 3-4 hours

Morning- 1 hard boiled egg white and 1/2 cup uncooked oatmeal

three hours later- same thing repeated from morning

lunch- usually lentils or spinich salad with chicken, or stirr fried Indian veggies

Dinner-Chicken wraps, or something healthy

I'm totally cutting out junky food like chips which I love.

I don't have any issues with sweets so I'm good that way.

Jenna keep me posted on your progress!!! Good luck to you.

all in all its a hard work out im not gona lie

Jimmy Infamous 11 months ago

Brian-- I totally know what you're talking about as far as increased endurance/stamina and not much weight loss. Keep in mind that if you are in moderate to good shape already, it's much more difficult to shed pounds, because the bigger you are, the more energy you use, and that's why your body size one way or another affects how quickly your able to lose the fat. Does this make sense? My suggestion to you is stick with the Insanity workouts and depending on where you live (if you're not in the midwest like me, representing chilly WI), alternate with runs outside to change it up which will work different muscles. Or if you say you eat well, I'd consider keeping track of everything you eat in a journal. You may be surprised that at what you're eating and how much.

NitaInVan--It sounds to me like you have a nice meal plan under control! Today (no lie) I just started eating the uncooked organic oatmeal as well. It's incredibly bland tasting, so I use organic raw blue agave in it to give it more flavor.

And as far as your workouts and not being able to do certain routines, don't worry because like me, everyone goes through that. Your body will strengthen and so will your cardio--further advancing your abilities to show up some of the peeps on the various Insanity workouts.

As for me, I was close to finishing my 2nd phase of Insanity, but because of work and being sick various times, it threw off my plan a bit. I decided that I would start over with a new calendar and take it from the top once again. And guilty as charged, I have not stuck to eating right all of the time, so that didn't help either. It's much too easy to rip into a bag of potato chips sometimes!

Edgar--If you haven't already, I'd consider getting a heart monitor to see if you are working your body to its fullest (but healthiest) potential. What types of foods are you eating with your calorie intake? Because depending on the food items, your calorie-counting may not be a factor as much as you think. But give the workout time. As much as you want to expect instant results, you just can't do it. So don't feel disappointed if you aren't where you would like to be quite yet. Also, if you haven't already done so, I would recommend taking a few snapshots (where there is bright lighting) of yourself; front, side and back. then, after about 3 or 4 weeks, take the snapshots again. If you are eating healthy enough, cutting your meal portions and staying consistent with the workouts, you should notice a difference. And then, at the very end of your Insanity phase, take those snapshots again. Hope this helps!

For now, I'm going to stop typing and get to my Plyo workout!

Brian 11 months ago

Jen and Jimmy Infamous, thanks for the follow ups. I probably should keep track of what I eat to see what I can cut out and what I can substitute. I.s 5'7, 160, and maybe because I wasn't incredibly out of shape, this is why it's taking a bit longer to see results. However I am nervous since I'm starting a new job and will have a longer commute, so that means less time to work out. Though I'm on the east coast, and as the weather gets nicer, I'll try taking up running to switch things up. Good luck to everyone, and remember 'dig deeper!'

Ninerings 11 months ago

So I just finished day 2. I gotta say. Awesome! Like many, I almost puked on day one. Interesting things about that is that I've been doing martial arts for years where I feel I get a GREAT workout! Once a quarter we do what's called a "power lesson". It is nothing but non-stop exercises (pushups, crunches, strikes, jumprope, frogs, etc.) It takes me a couple of hours doing that there to want to vomit, but this Insanity thing had me doing that within what, 30 minutes? odd....

Also, the cool thing is that I'm trying to quit smoking (yeah I know), and after each workout so far, my lungs kick out so many impurities ov er the course of an hour. I can see that my capacity is going to increase huge here.

Other thing about doing a power lesson is the soreness of my muscles. I mean damn near impossible to go down stairs two days after. Man, oh man, I'm getting that feeling now too. Gotta love it!

Plus, don't pause the thing. I have been unable to go straight through, but if I were to pause it, I'd let myself cool down too much. The idea is to keep TRYING to keep up as best of your abilities. The heart rate still rises, and the body is still getting what this program is designed for.

Brian 11 months ago

I am 42 years old 6' 200lbs at about 17% bf. I was in great shape up until my mid-30s then I had kids and haven't really done much besides pushups and body weight squats a few times a week since. I did the fit test and barely made it through and layed on the ground for about 5 minutes when I was done. I am starting the 1st day today!!! I want to get down to about 190lbs at about 12-13% bf. I am muscular but need to lose a little weight around the gut. I have a four pack but want to get the six pack back! Good luck to all.

jen 11 months ago

hey all, good to hear peoples progress, good on you brian!! Ninerings you are right! Never pause it....Even if say in one of the 30 second stints you can only manage two of the exercises, you are still working at your max because you are pushing yourself, you will find in a week you suprise yourself by doing many more, and by the second fit test BAM you will be shocked at how much more you achieved! I managed to double some of my results and my resting heart rate is now 50bpm which is that of an elite athletes!! hope quitting the ciggies goes well, just think, when u spark up you are undoing all the hard work you have done!! thats what i say to myself when i smell a naughty food!! :)

pkg0928 11 months ago

I;m 47 year old male, I completed 3 cycles of P90X (classic, lean and classic with p90X+ routines mixed-in) over the past twelve months and saw great results, lost approx 25 lbs 3.5 inches off the waist.

I've started the Insanity program to take a break from Tony and mixing it up with Bootcamp classes and yoga at my gym. I just finished week one and like so many others, the calves were pretty sore and after each workout if you're not totally soaked, you are not pushing hard enough.

I think this program will lean me out the extra few lbs around the waist. I will let you know how it goes

Madz 11 months ago

I have attempted the fit test and I also puked when there was only one exercise left, now I'm taking a break lol..and I just started. I feel nauseous every time I try to do the fit test. Any idea why? I ate an hour before and I didn't consume too much water..I just feel lightheaded. How do I ease my way into this program?

jen 11 months ago

Hey Madz, Its because your not used to it and even the fit test is extreme, I had this at first and it does ease so stick with it. The lightheadedness is intensified by the constant getting up and down as the blood is going to and leaving your head frequently. Remember to breathe correctly and that should help you through, keep well hydrated and if you feel too lightheaded or about to faint just take it easy or go lighter and I promise this will beging to ease and go away the more you do it.

I am 41 and in relatively ok shape being a lesiure/fitness cyclist. I am on my 4th week but had an injury to my iliotibial band so I had to take a week off. It was frustrating as hell as I did not want to fall behind. It really works - even after 40 :) It is really insane and throwing up, muscles so painful its hard to climb stairs, and the brief urge to give up are all a part of it for me. Keep on pushing and "dig deep"!

Crystel 11 months ago

Hi everybody I've been wondering if I should purchase this workout. I am 19 years old 5'5 and weigh 139, I'm medium framed. I just have a couple of questions. I have a big bust and a big butt, I also don't have skinny legs and am starting to notice like if I am getting some cellulite between the upper thigh and my butt. My goal is to get rid of ALL my belly fat because it looks like if Im 2 months pregnant (of so many chocolates) and to get rid of the cellulite and make my legs a little skinnier and completely toned I want nothing to wabble. My arms also gained weight and I wanted to get them skinny toned but not to an extreme toned. Basically my main doubt is: will my legs and butt get firm and have no appearance of cellulite?

Also I used to exercise a lot but then slacked off and stopped completely. A year ago I started going to the gym and pushed myself a lot but I had the treadmills and all those mechanic things. What I'm trying to say is that I really haven't exercised but am willing to do this all the way to get the body I want but will this excercise give me the body I'm looking for?

chandra 11 months ago

Crystel I do think so. The good thing about this workout is that it combines weight loss with muscle strengthening (toning). There are a lot of quadriceps and triceps exercises which will tone your arms and give them definition. Cellulite is fat so gradually as you increase muscle strength and lose fat you will see a decrase in cellulite - I did! The hardset for me is push-ups. It was an exercise I never did and I am far from the level of Shawn T and the perfectly chiseled trainers but I do what I can and I can feel and see the difference!

Bryan 11 months ago

Hello everyone, i am on my 15th day of Insanity. I started day one at 240 pounds, today i weighed in at 229. I see changes in my body already. Although the workout are really hard, i do push myself and o boy do i feel good after. Does anyone know if it is a good idea that while doing Insanity to also do weight lifting. Would it be better because i am doing Insanity and lifting? loosing the fat and gaining muscle at the same time? Am i right on that ? Any feed back would be great. My goal is to reach anywhere from 195 to 200 pounds by the end of Insanity. Does anyone think this is possible ?

jen 11 months ago

Crystal......Do it!! Dont hold back, I am on day 25 and I have lost and inch of arms, knees, thighs, 2 inches of waist and bust!! It is coming od slowly but thats good as it shows it will stay of permanently as opposed to a "quick fix" where you lose it quickly then it returns quickly. I could never do press ups before and now I can (after 3 weeks of attempting!!) My clothes fit better and I feel fantastic. Im gonna do the P90X after as my husband got that one and Im gonna keep going till my body is transformed!! The other good thing is that the time goes so quickly while your doing it as it is constantly go go go! And yes you will firm up incredibly and lose fat providing you put the effort in and dont give up! Give your body time to see the results, most people didnt see the best results until the end because remember the second month is the real challenge!!

Bryan....If your gonna do weights as well just ensure you are fueling your body with the right foods and not overdoing it, its all about the nutrition whatever you are aiming to acheive. As you build muscle you will burn fat more efficiently. It is possible to lose that amount but bear in mind that may not be the case as muscle is denser than fat, you may lose 50 pounds and be slim and lean, but gain 50lb in muscle and look ripped, so either way is a result!!

kristy 11 months ago

Ok, so I’ve spent the last hour or so (at work hehe) reading all your stories. It really sounds great! I'm always a little skeptical about work out video’s but it really seems to work for everyone.. I’m 28, about 5’5 and 140. Crystal we seem to have the same body lol. I am going to Jamaica in May, and would like be in better shape. I saw the infomercial, and I am willing to put up the money for it if it truly does work. My question is, is I live in an apartment, and it’s kind of small. Do you need a ton of space in order to do this? My living room is big enough to do a workout in, but how much floor space do you need? Can you do this program on carpet? It seems to be that if you honestly put forth the effort, you will see results. I’ve done the gym and never seem to get motivated enough to stick with it. Is this worth the price? Please let me know ?

Thanks

Lucie 11 months ago

I´ve just finished a week one and I am def loving Insanity! It is crazy, it is fast and it is working on me. I´ve lost 1kg after a week. Well I think that is normal, but I am seeing awesome results when I look in the mirror. My stomach is shrinking and thights are tighter. I was never a fan of aerobics or whatever where is higher concentration of steps. I was searching for a tough but easy bootcamp-like workout. And I found it. I love how Shaun motivates. And makes me drool looking at him too. Its awesome to finish workout and have endorphins flooding your body! However, I so struggle with the speed - I have asthma and I wouldnt be able to finish without my spray:)

To maximize my results I sometimes try to add 10 Minute Trainer.

I am blogging about my better body journey and would be very happy if you stop by and read or leave comments: wannabfit.blogspot.com

jen 11 months ago

Hey Kristy,

You dont need tons of space, I move the furniture a bit to give me more, the most space consuming exercise is globe jumps where you are jumping right then back then left then forwards to give you an idea. I do mine on carpet too, my flying around does bring up the fluff but its not a prob! Im gonna invest in some trainers for indoor use as when I am doing floor things from plank position my feet slide everywhere so they are quite ineffective and make them hard work to stay upright. It is worth the price however i got mine of amazon for £60 so saved quite a bit, they say u should get it off the proper site which maybe i should have done, but i did receive everything that was meant to be included fully packaged and brand new. I agree on the gym thing it can be hard to stay motivated, with this its such hard work you dont want to let yourself down and thats enough motivation to keep going (and the price!)

Hey Lucie! Keep it up, your speed will deffo improve even with the asthma, keep up the god work :)

Dave 11 months ago

Hey guys,

Congrats with all of the results.

I was just wondering...I am 6'3" and fairly thin. I do not want to lose weight but I would like to tighten up the chest and stomach muscles....and possibly get ripped. :)

Has anyone here been in this position i.e being relatively thin and gained some ripped muscles??

jen 11 months ago

Hey Dave, you will get ripped but if that is purely what you are after P90X may be the best solution for you or both, look on youtube at before and after results to get a better picture!

Hello folks!

Just here to say that my wife and i are in Week 1 Day 3 of the program. It feels so good!! We pushed thru and I cant tell you how much it pays off. I am a Male, 37, 282lbs(but muscular), and my wife is Female, 27 approx 145. We are following the nutrition plan as well so hopefully that will max our results. Will post again soon with updates! DIG DEEPER everyone!!!

Jen, thanks very much for your opinion. I'll check out the P90X workout :)

NitaInVan 11 months ago

Hi Guys,

just an update for you all...so I started Insanity about 3 weeks ago and I do love it and hate it at the same time. It is the hardest workout I've ever done in my life!!! I did my second fit test and have improved in some areas and also am able to see what areas I need to improve on so I like how in the program they want you to track your progress consistently.

I have lost 4.5 pounds. I was following the suggested meal plan of eating 5-6 small meals a day, and eating clean, but on the weekends I found it difficult to stick to the meal plan.

I know if I had stuck to the meal plan 100% I would have seen better results.

I have about 19 days left till Miami and really am stepping it up now and will be eating clean.

I think what I need to do is just pre-plan meals for the weekend so when the weekend comes I'm not allowing myself to go out to eat.

To the new people trying insanity- I personally think it is worth doing as it is a great workout. Just keep sticking to it and also try to stay committed to the eating plan as well. I really think its 90 % what you eat.

Hello everyone! I just wanted to start leaving comments for everyone because I started INSANITY 2 weeks ago and I get up every morning at 5am to do it....sometimes (actually, nearly every morning) I do not want to get up, but I'm glad I did. I have been struggling with my post-baby fat for 2 years now and I was always in good "bikini" shape before I had my lil' man, so it's been hard....before beginning 'INSANITY' I weighed 202lbs and I am 5'10". I now weigh 190 after 2 full weeks of doing the program. I don't follow the meal plan cuz I don't have it. I got the workout from a friend, so....I try to eat as healthy as possible with some slip ups here and there...mainly because I'm a single mom, teacher and sometimes rushing here and there and need to get something quick at times..but, I need to quit making excuses...lol...I really only drink water though and sometimes on the weekends a couple other bevs...but, I'm gonna leave a comment every Sunday to let anyone interested in knowing what's up;-) GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

lessen--

Like someone stated in a previous post, if you are looking to gain muscle mass and not lose weight, then I would recommend you try P90X. Insanity is a ton of cardio but you still gain lean muscle; P90X does contain cardio, but there are a lot of routines that focus on gaining muscle (a lot of push-ups, bands/weights).

NitaInVan--

Glad to hear your status update and I'm also glad to hear you've lost weight! As one of my aforementioned posts suggested, I've had difficulty sticking to the meal plans and I still do! Sometimes I feel like it's okay to treat myself because otherwise I may go insane, but if I really want to get the full affects of the workouts, I should follow the meal plan...otherwise all the hard work I put in, doesn't completely pay off.

Today (Thursday), I finally worked out again and I hadn't done one since last Saturday (shame shame, I know!). It's definitely so much more difficult to get back into the proverbial swing-of-things--when sticking with the workout routines, you almost develop an addictive nature to keep on with the workouts. I guess this little rant is me prepping myself up and for others out there that face this issue once in a while.

And just for fun, I know that when you all do the workouts, you start to pick up on the different participants in the workout (i.e. the slackers, the over-exaggerators, the annoying ones (for no real reason), and the ones that "dig deeper").

I would say that the most obnoxious participant for me is Frankie (the guy that every time the camera zooms on him, he either looks like he's going to cry or he goes from speed 2 to speed 5 once he realizes the camera is on him).

A big over-exaggerator would be Akeel (the ripped black guy)...c'mon man, you're ripped...why doesn't everything seem so difficult for you?

The warriors that seems to always stick with the workouts are Rachel ("You never wore a sports bra before Insanity, did ya!") and Tonya (even if she sometimes over-exaggerates for the point of the program, she is pretty tough as well).

This, for whatever reason, helps me get through the workouts easier and without them, there wouldn't be an iota of entertainment value whilst 'digging deeper.'

Cheers ya'll and good luck!!

Hi! I'm 24 female 5'5 138lbs. I am 6 days into the first week of insanity and my calf muscles are so sore it's hard to walk around sometimes but I love this workout! I was discouraged when I stepped on the scale and saw I was gaining weight. I am just coming off of the HCG diet where you shed .5-1lbs every day. After reading the posts I am confident that I will lose the weight and tone my muscles. My big area of concern is my midsection. I want those lean, sexy abs. I was thinking about taking some sort of supplement. Does anyone know of a good shake, etc that will help tone without gaining weight? Thanks!

MellieMel 11 months ago

I am into week 4 ya'll and I'm down just a little bit more to 188...but I have dropped one pants size...so, that's exciting....The best way to get lean, Ashley, is to eat clean for the most part...meaning, fresh vegetables and fruits, nuts and seeds, lean protein and drink water. No processed or fried foods, dressings, or dairy products. I know it's hard, but that's really the best way to get lean in my opinion (healthily;-))

Ashley 10 months ago

From doing the HCG diet which has a VERY strict diet of 4oz of protein for lunch and 4oz of protein for dinner and having 2 cups of fresh vegetables with each protein I've pretty much learned how to eat A LOT better so I think that is to my advantage when starting Insanity but now i have to increase my proteins since I am burning more than I am eating. Just wanting faster results but I'm sure by month 2 of insanity my abs will start to define themselves!! :)

Maggie 10 months ago

I'm thinking on starting insanity on monday, after doing Jillian Micheals 30 Day Shred, do you think it's okay for a 14 year old girl to do it ?

Kdawg68 10 months ago

Just thought I'd chime in here as well...

I've completed week-1 and am thus still very much in the "beginner's" stage. However, as a 33-year-old male who is about 50 lbs overweight (I came in weighing 250lbs while my ideal/target weight is around 200), I thought I could offer some feedback to the people reading the reviews and thinking "I'm too out of shape for that" or wondering if they are "too fat" for this program.

My short answer about whether totally out-of-shape people and obese people can do this program is a resounding YES!

Look, be realistic - you aren't going to be able to jump right in and "push through" all of the workouts if you are extremely out-of-shape (and even if you are mildly in shape you probably won't push through early on without a pause here and there or an extra few water breaks). Just stick with it and keep pushing. The younger you are the more adaptable your body is and you can "awaken" certain muscles (some of which you never knew you had) very quickly.

I'd recommend watching each video first and getting an idea for the movements and routine. Part of "psyching yourself out" to complete the workouts (what others might call pumping themselves up, mentally) is to have 1) confidence in your abilities, and 2) an idea of where you are going. If you know where the finish line is and what you're going to need to do to reach it - then it's that much easier to push through and really apply yourself. For those totally out of shape (like me) the first workout you'll probably complete all the way through w/out missing a rep or movement is the "recovery" workout (day 4 of week 1). Let that build your confidence. YES - you can get through one of these - but realize that your achievement will be fleeting as the next day you are back to pure cardio and will be gasping for air 10 minutes into your routine. :-)

Side note - the "recovery" DVD, while the "easiest" of the workouts thus far, actually beat me up the most - I suppose because of all the leg lunges and other quad exercises (non cardio). All I can say is "wow"!

Right now I'm looking at the blessed "off day" after week 1 and it couldn't have come at a better time as my quads are so daggone sore it's painful to go up or down any type of stairs (side note: if you're a fatty like me, take the stairs anyway - and do so always - as every little bit helps). That being said, I can already see the results.

Overall I've dropped 6 total pounds, but I should point out that I read up on the diet and had already made that (hopefully permanent) switch about a week before my DVDs arrived.

From tracking my food intake both before and after making the nutritional switch I know that my caloric intake has gone from about 3000 calories per day to just over 2100 - which is a BIG shift and is probably the root cause behind my weight loss (although it was very tough at first and I was feeling fatigued). I know I'll have to boost that up a bit as I get more into the workouts if I want to fuel my body correctly, but for now maximum pound shreddage is where it's at.

So yes - I HIGHLY recommend this program for out-of-shape and "fat" people as it will make you pour sweat and get that heart rate going. Just be safe, monitor your heart, and make sure you clear it with your doctor beforehand if you are concerned. Also, don't be discouraged if your first days out of couch-potato land you can't keep up with folks who are clearly in better shape. Just keep pushing and listening to your body. If you have to stop an exercise, try jogging in place to keep your heart-rate as elevated as possible until you "recover" and can jump back in. Trust me - you'll start to see even the well conditioned athletes dropping like flies in some of the videos as they are extremely intense and challenging.

Oh, and lastly (to some of the earlier posters) - that's not an "Asian girl" that Sean features in the videos. She's clearly Hispanic. And she totally destroyed me and made me feel emasculated in the fit-test. :-)

jen 10 months ago

hey kdawg, just wanna say well done and stick with it, im now on week 7 and when the dvds are longer its harder to get the motivation, but iv dropped a dress size and i know with these last few weeks i can drop another, some of the exercises in my fit test results have now doubled!!! i agree about the hispanic girl tonya - shes a machine and it all looks too easy for her, she's like tra la la on her 48763629675065810 press up!! well done all keep it up ;)

Hi All

I've just reached day 6 of my insanity challange and am so happy to be having tomrrow off the legs ache. I used to run three mile a day and thought i was in good shape. But after day 1 I know that i've just been coasting along without trying. I even struggled to do day 4 largely i think due to the amount of stretching involved I'm just not that felxible. I am pushing myslef every day and know this workout will be good for me.

Maggie unless you are seriously over weight with a BMI of over 26 then stop worring and relax a little your 14 your body has a natural fitness level that comes with youth. So go out shopping or ride your bike, rebel a little in short have fun. Also I'm not sure a typical teenager would have the mentle disapline to take on this challange (Sorry if I caused offence)

Good Luck

Hey everyone!! I"m really glad I stumbled across this post so I can hear about everyone's success and get motivated even more. I'm 29 years young and I weigh 202 LBS at 5'6". I was in the Army for four years(82nd Airborne Infantry =) and was in great shape in my early 20's. Even with that, i've always been skinny fat and once I got out I shot up from 165 to 224. I thought that with my Army background and 4 days a week of pick up basketball that this would be right up my alley. I'm now on day 5 of week 1 of Insanity and my legs have been sore from the get go. Like previous posters have said though, I feel addicted to this program and crave the workouts in the morning. It is all about pushing through and digging deep. My 5 year old daughter laughs at me because i'm yelling and grunting while counting down the seconds to my water break. This program is amazing though. If anyone reading is on the fence about purchasing Insanity, I would say DO IT!! I know I have a long way to go but in 5 days I have a new found energy in my life and a motivation to succeed. At the end of my workouts i'm literally dripping in sweat and working out in a puddle. I LOVE IT. The workouts are hardcore but take breaks when you need them and hydrate. As far as the diet plan, I haven't jumped into that yet. I'm eating healthy on my own with a few slip ups here and there. I consume a lot of protein from powder and lean meats and limit the carbs. I only drink water and occasionally sneak in an all natural fruit and veggie juice box with no added sugar or preservatives. I snack on fruit and veggies and will eat beef jerky on the go. NO fast food and no soda which was my main killer. I don't usually post on blogs so i'm sorry if this was all over the place. I just felt like connecting with others that are taking the steps to get the body we all know we can have and deserve. I'm hoping to get nice and lean by mid July for Jamaica and Las Vegas. Beach Body fo real!!!!

Hey everyone! I started Insanity last week and its kind of a love/hate relationship. After I'm done with the workout I'm glad I did it but its just starting it thats hard. I hope to see results bodywise soon. I've def seen results with my performance I can get through alot more this week so lets see! I'm trying to lose 40 lbs, probably not going to do it all within the 60 days but going to try my best :)

sandra 10 months ago

I have 2 weeks of Insanity left! It has been an awesome experience. The novelty has worn off and commitment at this time is important to finish the program! I am 41 and am in bettter shape than most 20 year olds around here :) Stick with it and you will not regret it!

Mike 10 months ago

This program works. I have only done one week, and I have already lost about 2 pounds. In addition, I can already see significantly more ab definition, and my body fat is averaging about .5% lower. The program has motivated me to finally replace my daily snacks of chips and crackers with bananas, carrots, and yogurt, and I feel a lot better because of it.

One thing concerns me, and that is calf soreness. Even after my off day, my calves are sore, and I'm afraid that the weeks to come will cause the calf muscles to get weaker. I'm eating at least 100g of protein a day in order to minimize lean muscle loss while losing fat, but no amount of protein is going to counterbalance overtraining. Comments?

Raj 10 months ago

Hey guys, I started Insanity as well. Question for all...What did you do for the meals? According to the calorie counter, I should be at about 2500-2800 calories a day. I cannot eat full meals at work since I get no official lunch break. What should I do? Any snacks I could use?

Thanks

Mike 10 months ago

I am constantly eating carrots, bananas, Greek yogurt, and high fiber granola bars. I also drink lots of protein shakes. I highly recommend GNC's 100% Whey with Mixed Berry flavor.

Melswab 10 months ago

I'm a female 29 years old and my waist has not gone down one inch sense I started this workout 10 days ago. I mean not even a half inch. I just added the South Beach diet 5 days ago and still have not lost any thing. What are your thoughts?

Mike 10 months ago

Melswab-

First of all, please give it time. Sometimes it takes a while to get your body into a transition mode.

Secondly, I recommend eating more carbs than South Beach Diet recommends, and make your total calorie count your top priority. Use a website like sparkpeople.com to track what you ate all day, and simply use the total calories you consumed as your guide. Technically, you could eat doritos all day and still be 500 calories below what you expended and lose weight that way (I don't recommend it though lol).

Ideally, for insanity, you want 40% carb, 20% fat, and 40% protein in your diet. You will need all those carbs in order to workout at maximum intensity in Insanity. Just make sure they are quality carbs.

One other thing you might not have accounted for: Insanity is tough on the ab muscles, and may cause them to grow! Ab muscles grow out, not in, and this could trick you into thinking you haven't lost fat on your stomach. In order to counteract your ab growth, look up an exercise called "vacuum breathing" on Google, and do it every other day. This exercise trains the deep abdominal muscles that pulls all the outer muscles towards your core. With training, these deep muscles will become more active without conscious effort causing your entire abdomen to shrink and tighten up.

Ultimately, you must be patient and tweak your diet as you go. If you are consistently eating the same amount of calories and not losing fat (and I say fat, not weight, on purpose. With the correct diet you will lose fat while preserving muscle mass), then reduce your total calorie count and observe the difference. It took me over a year of practice to truly learn to control my body fat %, which is why so many diets and exercise programs insist on a "lifestyle" change, as opposed to simply dieting until you reach your goal and quitting. Keep up the effort, and you will reach your goals. Then you can make even better goals!

Hi, I plan on starting the insanity workout tomorrow. I'm only 17 but i need the tone and too loose a few pounds on my thighs and tummy. I just barrowed a friends copy and would like to know if anyone knows where i can get the mean plan?

Melswab Mackey 10 months ago

Hi MellieMel, I'm into day 4 of my second week and have not lost anything. You and I are very similar. I too am a teacher weight about 200 lbs but I'm a bit shorter, 5'8". I don't know if its weird that I don't see any changes in my body yet. What do you think? And if you are so moved please IM me at melswab@hotmail.com. I would love to link up and motivate each other.

Thanks so much Mike. I will take your advice and change my diet a bit to meet the percentages you suggested. I really appreciate you taking the time out you respond to you post!

Chris  10 months ago

Hello, can I work out at the gym with weights and do this insanity work out routine?

Mike 10 months ago

Hi Chris,

I don't recommend it. You basically have to choose between two goals: gaining muscle and loosing fat. Unfortunately, our bodies aren't designed to do both at the same time, so you must choose one to focus on. I assume when you mention weightlifting that you are interested in building muscle. If that is true, then have a heavy emphasis on weightlifting with only mild cardio, and eat a lot of food in order to grow. Conversely, if you want to look toned or ripped, place all of your emphasis on Insanity with perhaps very mild emphasis on weightlifting, and eat slightly less food than you need in order to shred fat. In the latter case, the weightlifting will NOT allow you to build muscle because you wouldn't be eating enough. In the former case, you would not be losing fat because you are trying to eat enough calories to gain muscle mass. If you desire more muscle AND lower fat, then you need to cycle the processes in 3-6 month periods. For example, eat a lot of calories while weight lifting for 6 months, and then eat fewer calories while doing cardio for 6 months.

NitaInVan 10 months ago

OMG Jimmy...your post made me laugh...I think it is hularious that the characters in Instanity keep you going and motivated....Do you think that the asian chick (Tonya) and Shaun have a lil something going on??? I get that vibe, don't know why but I think they are doing insanity together privately if you know what I mean...

Losing Motivation 10 months ago

I am in the last two weeks of Insanity and have gained 8 lbs. I have been at 156 consistently for a year and now am up to 164. I eat less than when I started so I am not sure why there is such a dramatic weight gain. Any help?

Mike 9 months ago

My only ideas are that you may have:

A) thought you were eating less but were actually consuming more calories. Track calories and protein/carb/fat ratios more meticulously to fix.

or

B) gone through a hormonal growth spurt. This could have been triggered by intense exercise, a change in diet, aging, or some other factor out of your control. Do you know if you gained muscle or fat? Gaining muscle wouldn't be such a bad thing. If you think you've had a negative hormonal change, see a doctor. The solution may be as simple as eating less calories because your body processes energy differently.

Unrelated: I am now starting a 2+ week rest and recovery period after 2 weeks of Insanity because I completely messed my calves up. I'm pretty sure if I keep doing Insanity I'm going to develop a lifelong calf injury. This is definitely not your typical muscle soreness. I highly recommend doing additional calf stretches before Insanity and going to a professional about what shoes to wear. After a year straight of p90x, I have been brought to my knees (quite literally) by the mighty tyrant Insanity. Has anyone else had to resort to an extended rest and rehabilitation period from this program?

Melswab Mackey 9 months ago

Getting very discouraged, I'm still not seeing any results. But I think that I'm discouraged because I had put so much faith into insanity. Watching in infomercials really made me feel that this would work and work fast. I guess I have to stick to it. And I'm not eating well either. Way too many calories. I'll try cutting back for the rest of the program. I'm in week 4 and have already missed one workout. That makes the second one I have missed so far. Everyone keep up the good work.

Jreno 9 months ago

When people start this program, they dont put as much emphasis into the meal plan as they should. In fact, diet is where most of the transformation will come from. You dont see Nascar drivers using extremely watered down gas to fuel their cars. And we shouldn't use Dr Pepper and french fries to fuel our bodies. The meal plan is IMPORTANT. It gives you the proper energy to get through these workouts the way they were designed to be done. Another thing people tend to do is to cheat on form when they get tired. When Shaun T says "form over speed" he means it. Go deep into the globe jumps and keep your back straight and core tight. Wrists and shoulders inlined and butt down during floor sprints. Core TIGHT during high knees. These are basically just a lot of the areas I struggled with during the first 2 weeks. But a live chat with Shaun T really helped me to realize the importance of this stuff. I started as a 22 yr old 6'4" 216lb male. On day 63 I was down to 196 SOLID lbs. Basically just pay attention to every cue he gives during the workouts. He is not saying it to waste his breath. There is a reason he looks the way he does. Also, don't forget that the nutrition guide is a key part of the program. You can't only do the workouts, without proper nutrition. Thats like doing half the program, so you should expect maybe half the results.

These are just the things I have learned after two rounds of this program. I was guilty of doing everything in this post at one time, so I hope it doesn't sound like I'm trying to act like I'm better than anyone or anything like that. I'm just hoping the things that helped me succeed can help someone else. This program truly works if it is completed exactly the way it is designed.

Best of luck to everyone and keep digging deep! You can do this!

Mike 9 months ago

Agreed, you can lose weight by dieting without exercise, but you can't lose weight by exercising without a proper diet. Monitor your calories! Its easier to add them up than one might think, especially with the aid of the internet.

Jreno, do you (or does anyone else) have any advice on my calf issues? I think it might be shin splints, but located on the rear side of my tibia. As of right now I'm stretching, resting, and performing trigger point therapy on myself. How long should I wait before attempting Insanity again? Are there joint stabilizing exercises I can do before I begin the hardcore training? I've read that my problem might be due to the fact that my rear calves are disproportionally stronger than the front of my calves. Thanks to anyone who can offer advice on how to recover.

kdawg68 9 months ago

Just dropping back to update on progress. I posted on here back in my first week of Insanity (I was the 33-year-old who was 250 lbs and jumping right into the fray).

Well, I've made it to the end of blessed recovery week. The first two weeks were a huge challenge for someone as out of shape as I was. I can't lie - I paused extra times, took extra drinks, and often failed to complete movements for the entire period - but it was still a grueling experience.

That being said, by week 4 - it actually began to feel easier. The 2nd fit test revealed the progress - and I'm about to type something that quite honestly at my age and size I never thought it would be possible to say:

I can see my abs!

Oh, I've still got a gut to work through - overall I'm down to 237 (13 pounds lost overall - but that doesn't really tell the whole story as there has been obvious muscle increase throughout the core).

To say the results have been spectacular would be the understatement of the century.

I'm not sure if my diet would meet with the nutritional experts blessings - but it's infinitely healthier than I had been eating (i.e., no sodas, no white breads, a dedicated focus on lean meats and proteins, etc.), but the demands of long hours, kids, and a long commute sometimes lay waste to the best laid plans - so I do the best I can in terms of trying to balance my caloric in take throughout the day.

Towards the end of recovery week I developed a nasty sinus infection and chest cold that caused me to miss my first two scheduled workouts thus far. Major bummer - but I've recovered and jumped back into the fray this evening, if nothing else a bit more rested.

Thank goodness as well - as I note both a Fit Test AND a "Max Interval" workout await me on the opening day of Month 2? It's kind of funny, but I feel the same fears and worries overcoming know that I did when I plopped in the 1st DVD a month ago. "Can I do this? Will I survive??"

If the experience the first time around has taught me anything - it's that it's going to be a significant challenge in the beginning. I can't imagine going a full 1/2 hour only to see another 1/2 hour still remaining (not to mention the freakin fit test from earlier!). I shudder to imagine the difficulty.

But given what I've seen the first month, the 2nd month must be, for lack of a better word, INSANE! :)

One question - Let's say my 1st day of Month 2 is slated to fall on a Monday evening after work - realistically how much rest in between the fit test and the first "max" workout should I allow for? Time will obviously be a serious constraint - is it possible to go straight into the workout from the fit test, or is that a bad idea on the first day of the payoff month?

hey guys ive been considering the insanity workout for a while now along with p90 the problem with p90 for me is, is that its tough to do all the wieghts and pullups since i have a torn labrum which has been getting better due to physical therapy im at about 70 percent of where i was before the injury but with summer comming up i really want to tone out. I was wondering if it would help my shoulder more since id be working all the small muscles in my shoulder(wut iv been doing in physical therapy)? or am i more likely to hurt myself worse if anyone has had any INJURYS similar to mine please let me no because i know i can make it through im just iffy of the arm and shoulder workouts..thanks

I ordered insanity lastnight. Can not wait to get it. My close friend is doing this with me, its a good way to keep each other motivated in case we want to quit. I have twenty stubborn pounds to lose and a waistline that has been stretched from three kids that needs toned. well, my entire body can use the toning lol. I posted my blog so everyone can follow my results too.

I'm on day 4 of Insanity. I have never been so tired in my life. I wonder if I need something easier, to get in shape to do Insanity. Its insane. I sleep reallly good now though!

sawbones 9 months ago

I ordered insanity a few weeks ago. you see, i did the turbojam, followed by turbofire leading up to my wedding in january and loved them both. i lost about 25 lbs and felt fantastic on my wedding day...probably was in the best shape of my life. well, after the wedding i lost motivation and have gained back the 25 lbs over the past 3 months. yikes. basically, i started eating whatever i wanted and quit working out. i am finishing up a surgical residency and my extra time started going to board studying instead of tanning and working out.

anyways, now it is bikini season and i am freaking out and hating my body. i ordered insanity and gave it a try, only to quit halfway through the first week. this is INSANE. i was so sore after the first two workouts that i could barely walk,...or even sleep. not to mention, i couldn't make it through an entire video. so i took a week to recover and tried again. this time, i still couldn't make it through the video...and almost puked. so i would love to do the program...but i am almost convinced it is just too hard. any advice from anyone out there?????

Mike 9 months ago

Don't try to get back to your previous benchmark FASTER than you did before by doing Insanity. It's going to take the same amount of time, but it'll be worth it. Do the same programs as before and patiently await normal results instead of reaching for too-good-to-be-true results. I personally think Insanity is way too intense for people who just want to lose weight. You lose weight most effectively around 60% max heart rate, not 99%. Insanity will only help you shed your precious muscles as well as fat. Look at the dude in the fitness test! I certainly wouldn't want to look like that. I would only recommend Insanity to people who want to do athletic activities such as sprinting, basketball, and tennis. Basically anything that requires short bursts of high intensity, and quick coordination of feet. As for people trying to lose weight, I recommend putting the time frame in perspective. I

I am 30, 5'2... and have not been able to get below 194 in a year. I was diagnosed with Diab 2 over a year ago, so I became active, (running and zumba) which has helped me keep my sugar under control, but I haven't been able to lose weight. 1 month ago I was diagnosed with hypothroidism. I am wondering if Insanity is a good program for me.

Mike 9 months ago

k3jones - No offense, but you really need to consult a doctor, not random people on the internet. In my opinion, anything with the word "insane" in it should be avoided. Chances are, the last thing you need is to add more intensity to your workout. Keep the intensity at moderate and figure out ways to consume less calories through food without aggravating your diabetes and/or thyroid. My mother has both of the conditions you described, and unfortunately weight control is extremely difficult for her. The fact that you aren't gaining weight is a very good thing, and so is the fact that your blood sugar is well regulated. Those things alone makes your exercise well worth it. Remember, what's under the hood is much more important than the exterior. Consult a doctor for a safe exercise and diet program that will slowly and carefully reduce your weight.

Hey guys, I havent posted on here for ages....I got up to 6 weeks and had to stop as I was getting bad back trouble and I trapped a nerve in my hip too so I could barely lift my left leg and it kept clicking (before anyone says, I was always ensuring my form was over speed as I know how important it is) I did however lose half a stone and drop an inch or two, but to keep this off it important to continue eating healthy and getting regular exercise. I do consider starting it again but in all honestly looking back now its such a grind and it has to take over your life a bit to fit in all the workouts/extra showers and hairwashes! plus meals and shakes etc! I think as someone said its prob best for the more extreme athletes to improve speed/endurance etc. If you just want to lose weight/tone etc lifestle changes are much better as after doing these kind of programmes you do have to stay in it as long as you want to upkeep what you have gained, however by all means its great to give you a boost or get you started/fired up for fitness, shaun t is a fab instructor and do take his advice!

Hi, I'm female, 26 @ 117lbs, 5'3. I might seem small but my body has unsightly jelly and it's just not acceptable. The past 3 months, I've been running on the boring treadmill about 3 times a week but wasn't following a steady diet so not much as changed.

Now I am on my 4th day of Insanity. My legs are aching like there's no tomorrow. Walking down stairs has become a major challenge and my butt and legs ache throughout the night but it feels great!! Pushing yourself to the limit is really addicting and I've been feeling a surge of extra energy. Just after my 3rd day, I was able to see my thighs tighten up a little and my back starting to take shape. Good luck everyone! Don't give up!

Mike 8 months ago

Good for you Jen! It sounds like you are not fat at all, and just need a little bit of muscle development. Don't go overboard trying to lose fat! Try some upper body dumbell work with like 5 lbs every other day and you're upper upper body will tighten up too.

Hey guys: 52/203/6'1/navy. Good shape and condition I believe, and am looking to change up routines. I run, bike, lift and have been through p-90x twice. I am considering Insanity and after reading many of your posts I am more motivated that ever.

Couple of questions:

1) My work day starts very early and I am usually out of the door around 0545 am. How early would I need to wake to support a morning workout routine, factoring in time to shower and dress following the workout?

20 I live in a second floor apartment and am concerned about the noise factor. Will my neighbors get in an uproar and demand my ouster from the noise generated by this workout especially if I am doing it in the early am?

Abdul 8 months ago

Right guys i start tomorrow Im 24, 5"8 and 168lbs with serious love handles, I also smoke.

I start the programme tomorrow and i have had my last cigarette earlier today for what i hope will be forever.

Quick question:

Do i need to drink the results and recovery formula? Is there a cheaper substitute.

Mike 8 months ago

Abdul - All you need is about 40-60 grams of carbs and 10-20 grams of protein. If there is ever a time of day when you're allowed to have a soda or gatorade, post workout would be the time. You want really sweet, fast digesting sugar to refill your glycogen supplies. As for the protein, I recommend a Whey protein shake. Also post workout is a great time to take 5 g of creatine. I'm on a bulking diet as opposed to a cutting diet, but postworkout I have a 12 ounce mountain dew, 40 g of protein, and 5 g of creatine. A multivitamin would also be a good idea.

Many of you probably doubt my soda recommendation, but I assure you that it contains the same sugars that they put in their recovery formulas. You need fast carbs post workout. They won't be converted to fat because your muscles are starving for energy. Otherwise your muscles breakdown and you become weaker.

Midwayrd - Unfortunately, unless you have concrete floors, you would be considered the bane of your neighbors' existence. The workout would be very loud, and it would take place ~ 5 hours earlier than the generally accepted time to begin making noise: 9 AM. I highly recommend you work out after work.

i just started insanity last night, doing the fit test. i'm a 5'10.5" female, 185 lbs. i want to get to 160 before school starts back up in the fall. which means i basically have the 60 days to get there, and that might not be doable, but we'll see! i'm going to try my hardest to do the eating plan, but it's hard to have 3 of my meals at the internship i'm working at... do you think it would be okay to eat 3 healthy meals instead? i won't have a problem being healthy, just with 5. recommendations?

Abdul 8 months ago

Thanks Mike, I have decided to take Lucozade Sport (Gatorade) post workout 135 Calories 32 Carbs of which is 17.5 g os sugar I have also purchased a protein shake when is it the best time for me to be taking this?

Mike 8 months ago

Within 30 minutes of the end of your workout.

Abdul 8 months ago

I've purchased my Whey Protein all that remains is for me to take it, yet i have another question how often should i take it bear in mind im trying to lose weight and per seving it has 96kcal. I was thinking post workout and just before i go to bed.

Mark  8 months ago

To answer the question, i put the workout on Pause from Time to Time, mayb 3 times throughout the workout. If you look closely at the workouts, some of the models are pacing themselves. Except the Asian girl and the black dude he is a beast. But to balance that i always do extra after the Workouts and I do the Cardio Abs after every workout. Hey wuts an extra 15 mins you know. But the Asian Chick is on all of Shaun Ts projects like HipHop Abs and etc.

Hi,

I was curious to know if anyone knew what type of Ab Belt the black ripped guy in the dvd is wearing? Curious to know the benefits if any?

Thanks

Hi, I've just started the Insanity workout this week and am on day 4 today. My body is super sore but I did P90X before so I know that it will pass. However, I was wondering, has anybody with back problems done this work out? I have an issue with my lower back so I am wondering if it's safe for me to do this workout. I don't want to give up but I don't want to be laid up in bed either!

Danny 8 months ago

I started a week ago, and also suffer from a bad back. Don't worry as long as you go at your own pace you'll be fine. Stretching is most important.

Danny 8 months ago

Forgot to ask, does anyone know how to keep your core tight. It's been bugging me all week.

Abdul 7 months ago

Chris the belt the guy wears is a heart monitor.

Guys, if you have lower back problems, try to go a bit deeper with your stretches especially on Thursdays when you do the cardio recovery CD, also remember to land soft when doing jumps, remember do not compromise for for speed.

*Update

Lost 3lbs in my first week will be weighing myself again in 3 days after i finish the second week Fit Test.

Randy 7 months ago

I just started this work out about 2.5 weeks ago.

First week it hurt like all hell but, that's passed now.

I'm doing random exercises in the normal range for the first month to get fit enough to actually do a whole session.

Its hard but its so worth it.

2 weeks and i can already feel results.

first day i could hardly finish the fitness test, got 3 exercises in and was on the floor.

a week later i finished the fitness test and was ready for the next video.

Good luck to all of you who have just started.

I started using these disk on and off because with so much jumping, my knees are killing me. I was able to lose a few inches when i start back but most of my disk are jacked up. The disk would start and suddenly its in the middle of the workout, then jump to the end or beginning. I have a few disk that are like that.

Dee 7 months ago

Dee how long ago did you purchase it? I had problems with my discs so i called Beachbody Customer service and they sent me another insanity pack within a week, try giving them a call

Ok im a female at 5'2' weighing in at 155 pounds. this was my fist week of insantiy, i have to say i have not seen any weight loss in fact i gain weight. i have been eating rite except for tonight. i do my workout every day.. can someone tell me why im not seeing any weight loss...or any tip on how to loss weight while doing insanity.. please my goal is 130 pounds...

one question.....???? which is the best weight loss meal replacement smoothie.... thank you

Dexter 7 months ago

@Liz, just remember the weight wasn't put on in one week so it's not going to come off in a week either. You just have to stick through it and trust the program. The reason why most people stop going to the gym after January is because they want instant results and don't want to work hard.

Abdul 7 months ago

Right my fellow insane people, i have an update for you all, im on the second day of my recovery week and i can reveal that i lost 9lbs in my first month, would have been more but unfortunately my diet was poor the last week of the month.

m7md 7 months ago

hello

i am a 17 year old male and i started insanity 2 weeks ago weighing about 116kg(256lbs) and measuring about 183cm(6feet) i am now at the end of the second week(fit test tomorrow) and i now weigh about 112(248) the first couple of days were very harsh even the warm ups were killing me and i felt really sore but now i have improved and survive until the last few minutes before i can no longer take it and the soreness is not as it was previously just some hours after working out and a good night sleep is enough to remove it regarding food i am not sticking to the nutrition plan 100% but i think its close enough questions are

judging by what i have read online so far insanity is not the right thing for me as it is not a weight loss program

that can remove about 50 pounds of weight should i continue or should i look for a different program

is an 8 pound loss in 2 weeks good or is not enough considering the intensity of the exercises or is it so rapid that i will easily gain them back if i stop

thanks in advance for answering and peace out like shaunT says:)

skeffs 7 months ago

hi everyone i am on wk2 day3 of insanity i do push myself for some of it and can feel myself getting fitter/more able to keep up but my question is this i am wearing a HR monitor and it is saying i am only burning approx 160cals on other websites people say they are burning 600+, I am sweating so hard and breathless during and after this so definitely am pushing hard enough to surely show more calories burnt? has anyone else had this experience?

I want to start insanity workout very bad mainly because i'm tall (6'4") but pretty slim at the same time i only weight 170lbs. I want to build up mass and wondered if its a good program for this.

Also I smoke for a couple years and want to stop and i think if i begin a program like this it will hepl me motivate myself even more to stop. Im afraid though that the cardio in insanity will be too much

I just want some advices please

Isla 4 months ago

I just started Insanity again (I did about a year ago but stoped half way through, but its going to be different this time!!!) and I am really excited because I am going away in Dec to a lodge with a hot tub and would love to look awesome for it! And yes, i almost up chucked today from the workout so I dont think that uncommon :S The program is pretty crazy but i would say try it out, and keep going as best you can and think "mind over matter!" The fact that you are quitting will make it easier as you progress but in the beggining (as for all of us) it will be challenging. Just keep going and stop when you need to, and try your best :)

Martin 3 months ago

First day, thought i am fit (at least a little) after the fit test while stretching, i wasn't feeling very well and than puked. i felt so bad, and started to google "insanity workout puke" and there u go, thank u all for use on honisty!!!!! I'll go on and win that thing

Antonio Cobb 2 weeks ago

i started Insanity about 3 weeks ago and i can say that i lost 15 pounds. my starting weight is 233 i am 215 right now. i love this work out its getting me the results i always wanted. Its not a walk in the park though you really got to push your self and try to follow the nutrition guide as much as you can to get max results.

I P Standing 5 days ago

sounds a bit cultish,,whats the age max,,everyone in the info thing seems to be under 30,,how realistic is it for an average person over 30 ,,keep the intensity,,keep starting over and never stop,,whats the long term effects,,most persons wont keep it up forever and start eating again

zp 2 days ago

im on week 3 and have actually gained 3 pounds. Is this normal? I'm 6'3 and 267 and would like to lose about 30 lbs

Kel 2 days ago

I am on week 4 of the insanity program. It has becomemy most favorite addiction.I have lost 16 pounds, 13 inches around my belly (measruing at belly button and around) and 10 inches in each of my thighs. I was a maid of honor in a wedding and I had to let teh seams out of my dress the day of the wedding... I tried it on teh other day and it would need to be taken in many inches for it to fit properly. It is a hard work out and by you having to puke just means you were willing to push as far as you could go. I am glad you haven't quit. Your results will show before you know it and you will be so proud of yourself. : )

Natalie 30 hours ago

Tried Insanity once, got pneumonia and quit. Gonna go back to it starting tomorrow. It is seriously the hardest workout I have ever done! It actually scares me to try it again lol. I am a 36 y/o woman and I played soccer for many years along with track and basketball. I've been running for the past year so I thought Insanity wouldn't be too bad because I had been working out. Sooooo not true! It's the hardest workout you'll ever do but it will be worth it in the end I know it!
