Shaun T: The Man Behind The Insanity Workout

Born in New Jersey, Shaun Thompson now lives in New York City where his love for fitness and dancing has blossomed. Shaun T took his desire to dance to college, he trained at Rowan University where he received his BS in Sports Science and a minor in Theater/Dance.
Shaun began dancing for theater and television and has worked with many famous and various artists. Some of the musicals Shaun T has worked on are The Ten Commandments with Val Kilmer, Pippin, and Applause. Shaun T has also had some TV appearances on the Tonight show with Jay Leno, Six Feet Under, BBC America, including a movie part in Beautyshop with Queen Latifah.
Even though acting has been a part of Shaun T's life, it has been dancing that has been his bread and butter. He has worked with artists like Mariah Carey, Aaron Carter, Nick Carter, and Elephant Man. He has also worked with companies such as Nike, Radio Shack, Marc Jacobs, Boost Athletic shoes, and the Los Angeles Lakers. He has had numerous opportunities to choreograph for different events. Shaun choreographed the NCAA Final 4 Halftime show, and helped with the Movie Bring it On: All or Nothing. He continues to help to choreograph dance and fitness videos.
Shaun T is most famous for his incredible workout DVDs. Since his major fitness success Hip Hop Abs, Shaun T has come out with Rockin Body, a few kid workout programs, and most recently Insanity Workout.
Hip Hop Abs
It was in February of 2007 when Shaun T came out with Hip Hop Abs, a fitness program that specifically worked out your abs. Hip Hop Abs quickly became the #1 fitness program in America, people were in love with getting in shape and getting flat abs by dancing and having fun. It definitely has been Shaun T's biggest success, Hip Hop Abs revolutionized how people were working out. After the success of Hip Hop Abs, gyms all over the country were having hip hop sessions for working out, even today there are still workout classes that are focused on dancing hip hop to lose weight.
Hip Hop Abs is a 30 day program that comes with four main workout videos, but also includes fitness and nutritional materials to help you shed fat. Hip Hop Abs also comes with an extra workout session and three dance routines that you can just have fun with. It literally is the funniest workout out there.
Rockin Body
After the success of Hip Hop Abs and helping millions of people flatten their stomachs without doing a single sit up, Shaun T did not want to stop there. So in 2008 he released Rockin Body, which had new dance moves and 7 different workouts on 2 discs. Rockin Body quickly became a hit and people all over the country were loving the new workouts. Rockin Body also cames with new material to help you with eating on the go, so you can make healthy choices. Rockin Body also came out with workouts that just were not for your abs, but they were full body workouts, with one session targeting your butt.
The fitness materials that came with Rockin Body were also very helpful, it had a workout calendar, a new easy to follow Nutrition guide, plus a 3 day slim plan, and a party guide.
Insanity Workout
Shaun T has now taken in a new approach to his workout DVDs. His most recent workout and definitely his most difficult and best fitness program yet is called Insanity. It is called "Insanity" for a reason, it literally has been said to rival the P90x workout system which has been on top of the home workout world for the last 4 years. The Insanity workout is way different than Shaun T's Hip Hop Abs or Rockin body. The main difference is that there is no dancing, it is straight up in your face "Max Interval Training." This is no joke, these are the type of workouts that world class athletes do. The other difference is that the Insanity workout is 60 days long, instead of 30 days. The workouts are anywhere from 40 minutes to 80 minutes long, and will make you sweat and burn fat like crazy. The wonderful thing about Shaun T's Insanity workout is that there is o workout equipment needed. It is all done with your own body weight, and when Shaun tells you to do a rep of an exercise, it means do it until you can't do it any longer. Shaun T will push your muscles to failure, which seems brutal, but it will bring incredible results to your body.

Great hub on Shaun T. I personally bought the hip hop abs program and noticed immediate results (within 3 days). These excercises work for building muscle for your midsection. I had not heard of the insanity training, but if it rivals p90x without any additional equipment it might be the perfect option. Thanks for sharing this great hub.
outdoorguy the weight you loose in the first days of new diet/workout is usually mostly water, so it is best to focus on what results this has long-term. Definitly looks like an interesting program, very different from most.
Shaun T's workouts are awesome. My husband & I had used Hip Hop abs in the past & not only is it good but it's fun as well. We both got too busy to work out & quit for quite sometime. We started again with Hip Hop abs for about a month & then decided to get on-line & see if Shaun T had any other workout videos. I saw Insanity & asked my husband if he was really ready to commit to this because if we bought it then we were going to commit to spending the 60 days without any excuses to work out. He agreed. We are in our 5th week & the results are amazing. This program pushes you but you feel great when you get thru the workout. You also do a fit test every 2 weeks which also shows you your progress. This is the best workout you can ever use. We are both in our mid 50's and feel & look great and we are only half way thru the program. My husband has lost 40 lbs & I have lost about 30 lbs. This is not water weight. More important than that is the inches we had lost. My husband is down 4 pant sizes & so am I. Shaun T is right, this workout is not for everyone. You must be ready to commit make the time to do the videos 6 days a week. If not, don't bother. When we are finished with the program, we will take a week off & start it again. We have never felt so good in our lives.
I am doing the Insanity Workout right now, and have to say Shaun T know his stuff! He also knows how to break you down and push you to your limits. I love the workout routine.

Start my first week of Insanity and I must say that it took me back to when I played College football winter conditioning. You must stay committed, but I feel great already. I can't wait to see the results after 60 days. Shaun T is amazing.
I love Shaun T! I love a challenge and this workout definitely gave it to me. I'm not your average 20 years old, skinny/atheletic woman. Instead I'm a 34 years old, 210 lb woman who keeps up with the rest of them on the workout. Shaun is so motivating and I look forward to working out with him every morning (except Sundays) at 6 am. Thanks Shaun T I love you. My goal is losing weight and lowering my blood pressure. Wish me luck, I'll do the hard work!
This really is a great workout! I use it myself and have gotten great results pretty quickly. I think just getting moving and staying moving is the key! No big secret:)

I am in the second month, my husband is in the first. Shaun is an incredibly great inspiration speaker during the workout and his skill and degree in health and fitness shows as he is also very kind and wise by stressing go as much as you can, don't hurt yourself. The results for myself and my husband have been nothing less than amazing, and I mean amazing. The insanity workout is the best I have ever done and I have worked out seriously for 30 years. Shaun rocks :)

Amazing program and an amazing guy. If your having doughts about weather its working and or worth it, keep pushing, it works and produces incredible results. Month 2 breaks you down the hardest so keep in mind if you waiting on results still, they'll come... Repeat, repeat and repeat again, ule forever be in shape and ripped
I always wondered what he had choreographed and just found out here! Honestly, I have not tried the programs yet, but I am getting very motivated to want to try them!
I started insanity 4 days ago and its crazy good and crazy insane...You really have to push yourself to finish but i can already tell on day 4 that my body is changing and I feel awsome, I have so much more energy...
I am not endorsed by Insanity but would like to say it's the best fitness dvd i've ever used. the music isn't annoying and neither is the instructor. honestly, it's constantly motivating and i have a greater desire to work because of shaun t's attitude. (also, i think the dude on p90x is a total tool)
My husband and I just started this workout a week ago and as hard as it is...it's amazing! (and I'm not just saying that) I am 38 years old, haven't worked out for 10 years and within 1 week I've lost 10 pounds, can feel inches down and really feel great!

Wonderful Program. I'm actually in my 2nd round of it. It is totally true about what they it can and will do for you. Totally a challenge that gets results! Tons of fun. Shaun Thompson is an amazing motivator in this wokrout program. We'll worth looking into if you haven't.
